Job summary

Liftoff is seeking a skilled technical accountant to act as the company’s accounting expert across complex transactions and policy guidance. You will draft memos, research positions, and ensure our financial statements reflect US GAAP with precision.

You’ll collaborate with Legal, FP&A, and business teams on new contracts, equity-related disclosures, and equity-based compensation, while supporting audits and disclosures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA certification is required.
• Public accounting experience, ideally Big 4.
• Expertise in US GAAP.
• Own deliverables with accountability and accuracy.
• Ability to manage tight deadlines and priorities.

About The Role

In this role, you’ll operate as Liftoff’s technical accounting expert—drafting and reviewing technical memos, guiding policy, and ensuring that our financial statements appropriately reflect accounting for complex transactions. At Liftoff, our industry and the company’s growth present unique challenges for the accounting team. You’ll be tackling some of the most complex and innovative transactions in the industry, often operating at the frontier of accounting standards where clear precedent doesn’t yet exist. If you thrive on solving problems that even Big 4 National Offices debate, and enjoy turning ambiguity into well-reasoned, defensible positions, this role will keep you constantly challenged and engaged.

Responsibilities

• Research and document technical accounting positions (revenue, stock based compensation (SBC), leases, debt, capitalized software (CapSW)).
• Prepare journal entry support for complex accounting areas (SBC, CapSW, Debt, significant non-recurring transactions, etc).
• Own accounting policies
• Drive implementation of new accounting standards from initial research to operationalization and disclosure impact.
• Own equity-related technical accounting from review of grant setup in Equity Edge Online (EEO) to disclosures.
• Prepare statement of equity and statement of cash flows, as well as financial statement footnotes for complex areas, including earnings per share and stock-based compensation, and stockholders’ equity.
• Prepare SBC expense support for quarterly journal entries
• Assist in preparation and tie out of Proxy disclosures
• Collaborate with Legal, FP&A, and business teams on new contracts and billing structures.
• Support audits with technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance, and 6 years of experience
• CPA required
• Public accounting experience, ideally Big 4 experience
• Expertise in US GAAP
• Ownership and accountability: Take ownership of deliverables, deadlines, risks, and outcomes while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
• Prioritization and execution: Manage competing priorities and tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to accurately interpret data.
• Strong communication skills: clearly communicate complex technical accounting matters to cross-functional stakeholders and auditors.
• Adaptability: remain calm and effective in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and adapt to evolving business, accounting and reporting requirements.

Location

Liftoff follows a philosophy of "remote first, come together meaningfully" and allows employees to be based from a number of different states where we have entities. We require that this role work during Pacific time zone; working from the San Francisco Bay Area is highly preferred.

Travel Expectations

Compensation

Liftoff offers all employees a full compensation package that includes equity and health/vision/dental benefits associated with your country of residence. This role includes On Target Earnings (OTE) including a 10% bonus.

The following are our OTE (base + bonus) ranges for this role:

• SF Bay Area, Los Angeles/Orange County, NYC, Seattle: $140,000-$185,000
• All other California and Washington state locations, Austin, Boston, Denver, Portland: $128,000 - $170,000
• All other locations in our approved states: $120,000 - 159,000
