This role entails leading a dynamic Accounting and Finance team and reporting directly to the Board of Directors, effectively positioning you as the Head of Finance. It's a fantastic chance for accomplished leaders eager to take the helm with a dynamic and well-established firm in the heart of our nation's capital.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:- Support the Corporate Head of Tax in preparing quarterly and annual tax provisions and disclosures per ASC 740.
- Manage corporate income tax filings and compliance, review tax returns, and lead the transition to in-house preparation within a year.
- Oversee quarterly and year-end estimated tax preparation and payments for federal, state, and local taxes.
- Supervise state and local sales and use tax, personal property tax, and business license applications, including Virginia BPOL, while evaluating nexus for reporting needs.
- Assist in managing tax audits and controversies.
- Help ensure department compliance with SOX-404 and other control requirements.
- Assess tax implications for corporate strategies, business development, and expansion.
- Work with external advisors and internal teams on tax due diligence and compliance for acquisitions and new locations.
- Conduct ad hoc analyses and complete other assignments as needed.
- Stay updated on tax laws and ensure licensure and CPE compliance.
- Maintain relationships with external auditors and tax consultants.
- Collaborate on research and development tax credits and specialized outsourced tax projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; JD or LLM in Taxation is a plus.
- Preferred: Master's, MBA in Taxation, or similar graduate degree; CPA certification in good standing required.
- At least 8 years of progressive experience in SEC-registrant corporate income tax or public accounting (tax practice), including supervisory roles.
- Strong experience in multi-state taxation, ASC 740, and corporate income tax compliance required.
