CarMax is looking for a Learning & Development Manager to join our fast-paced environment to shape the learning strategy for our Service Operations and Logistics teams across the field. This includes collaborating with leadership across the organization to understand our talent needs and lead the direction of our learning systems and processes. The manager will lead the development of innovative learning solutions that equip our associates to deliver a brand-defining customer experience. They will serve as an expert instruction design consultant, ensuring we are developing and delivering training solutions that are best in class.

What You Will Do

Technical Program leadership:

  • Manages design & delivery of training, knowledge management or other talent management solutions through direct or indirect reporting relationships.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute organized project plans that provide clear line of site into timelines and project status.
  • Reviews and provides feedback and direction on the design and development of our training programs
  • Ensures training solutions deliver expected measurable outcomes, partnering with others to develop appropriate measurement systems to assess program/strategy impact
  • Ensures core design principles are consistently managed to maximize cost/quality/speed, ensuring flexible, sustainable solutions are implemented with structured, ongoing field ownership/engagement
  • Manages the introduction and implementation of new technology solutions and options to continuously improve training at CarMax.
  • Manages internal processes to write, edit, publish, and distribute training and communication materials

Training Design, Development & Deployment:

  • Serves as an expert instructional design consultant, partnering with the field and teams across the business to clearly define the training opportunities and learning requirements, provide strategic guidance on training method and delivery, then lead the creation of training and development solutions that deliver measurable, sustainable results.
  • Play a critical role in the design, development and deployment of our more technical training curriculum including interactive training courses using Articulate 360 or similar e-learning development tool, in line with CarMax Learning standards.
  • Leads the deployment of Service Operations and Logistics communication and training materials through multiple platforms including MS Office, SharePoint, Articulate 360, Adobe, Workday, and video production.
  • Develops and maintains materials such as workbooks, facilitator guides, multimedia/web-based courses, computer tutorials, videos, case studies and reference guides as needed
  • Track and report metric results for Service Operations and Logistics initiatives and business-area goals as appropriate for training success measures.

Purpose of The Role

The Learning & Development Manager for Service Operations and Logistics leads the design, development and deployment of training solutions that support our Service Operations and Logistics teams. This individual is a technical expert in eLearning software and systems and directly supports our largest initiatives by providing best in class training tools. Additionally, this individual is adept at working across the team to ensure the full suite of training needs is met, collaborating with Learning Developers and business partners to ensure the work is aligned with our standards, and delivers sustainable results. The Learning Manager plays a key leadership role in the development and deployment of the Service Operations & Logistics talent management strategy, defining and owning the delivery of critical roadmap initiatives to ensure the department meets/exceeds performance targets.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in Training, Talent Management or relevant fields including experience with instructional design and application.
  • Advanced proficiency in eLearning software and systems typically used to design or deploy training such as Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate, Vyond, and Office 365
  • Prior experience leading and managing programs or projects
  • Prior experience leading others, such as a direct team, or project team
  • Experience with video editing software strongly preferred
  • Proficient in educational methods and application for adult learning
  • Up to date on latest training methods and practices used in leading companies
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent experience

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Home Office and have a Hybrid work arrangement.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
