Job description

Job Description

The Manager, Supporter Relations is the club’s primary relationship holder with Gotham FC’s organized supporter groups and broader fan community. This person is the conduit between the club and its most passionate advocates, building trust, managing relationships, and ensuring that the supporter experience at every touchpoint reflects the culture and values of Gotham FC. This is not a behind-the-desk role. The Manager, Supporter Relations is a visible, consistent presence at matches, community events, and supporter gatherings. They know the leaders of every supporter group by name, understand the changing dynamics within the supporter community, and can navigate complex fan relationships with both honesty and care.

Key Responsibilities

Supporter Group Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all official Gotham FC supporter groups, building and maintaining genuine, trust-based relationships with SG leadership.
  • Negotiate and manage supporter group agreements, including section allocations, match day benefits, and club resources.
  • Proactively facilitate regular communication between the club and supporter groups.
  • Navigate supporter community dynamics with cultural competency, discretion, and a clear understanding of what makes fan culture thrive.
  • Represent the supporter community’s perspective internally, advocating for their needs and concerns across departments including Marketing, Ticketing, and Match Day Operations.
  • Facilitate the creation of governance structures among multiple supporter groups.

Match Day Experience

  • Own the end-to-end supporter experience on match days, from pre-match coordination with SGs to in-stadium presence and post-match follow-up.
  • Manages supporter section logistics, including tifo coordination, flag/banner policies, drumming and chanting protocols, and any match day activations specific to the supporter sections.
  • Serve as the club’s on-the-ground liaison between supporter groups and stadium/operations staff.
  • Plan and execute supporter-specific match day programming, including heritage celebrations, supporter initiatives, and special activations.
  • Identify and resolve match day issues in real time, with a calm and solutions-oriented approach.

Fan Development & Growth

  • Develop and execute a supporter growth strategy that expands Gotham FC’s organized fan base, with particular attention to Queens and the broader New York metropolitan area.
  • Build pathways for new and casual fans to connect with the supporter community, including orientation programming, supporter group recruitment, and grassroots outreach.
  • Partner with Ticketing and Marketing to align supporter growth with membership and season ticket goals.
  • Track and report on supporter community metrics and use data to inform strategy.

Community & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Community Impact team to connect supporter culture with the club’s broader community work, identifying opportunities for SGs to participate in impact programming and vice versa.
  • Partner with the Content and Social teams to tell supporter stories, celebrate SG culture, and amplify the voices of the fan community.
  • Work with Communications to manage supporter-related announcements, policy changes, and sensitive fan community issues.
  • Support the planning and execution of pre-season supporter events, end-of-season celebrations, and other touchpoints throughout the club calendar.

Leadership

  • Help build the systems, processes, and institutional knowledge that allow the Supporter Relations function to scale.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in fan engagement, supporter relations, community management, or a closely related field, ideally within soccer.
  • Deep familiarity with soccer supporter culture: how organized supporter groups work, what they value, and how to build productive relationships with SG leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex stakeholder relationships with honesty, care, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong presence and credibility in match day environments. Must be comfortable being visible, accessible, and responsive in high-energy settings.
  • Excellent communicator, both in writing and in person. Able to represent the club professionally while speaking the language of the fan community.
  • Availability and willingness to work match days, evenings, and weekends as required by the club calendar.
  • Based in the New York metropolitan area or willing to relocate.

Location

This position is a hybrid position, based at Gotham FC’s business office in Jersey City, New Jersey, with additional remote days. Ability to attend all home games and any mandatory events necessary. A willingness to travel for other business-related needs, as they arise.
