Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Manager Supplier Quality 2 to join our Supplier Performance Management (SPM) team based in Sykesville, Maryland. This position will report directly to the Manager Supplier Quality 3, Naval & Oceanic Systems (N&OS) business unit, and the qualified candidate will lead a high-performing team of Supplier Quality Engineers supporting all programs at the site.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for supplier quality risk management – implementing proactive supplier performance management strategy.
- Develops and implements supplier quality evaluation and control systems.
- Assures supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance.
- Interfaces directly with supplier personnel and assesses both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.
- Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues.
- Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance.
- Manages supplier requests for waivers, deviations, and requirement changes.
- Establishes strong working relationships with stakeholders across programs and functional organizations.
- Keeps management, including executive leadership, apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks.
- Coordinates and oversees supplier quality plan implementation through all program phases.
- Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification, and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP).
- Manages implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities and supplier quality risk assessments.
- Travels to suppliers to conduct purchase order kickoff meetings, risk & opportunity assessments, audits, root cause analysis, and other relevant activities.
- Builds and maintains a high-performing team, supporting the professional development of team members.
- Provides manpower forecast plans for the team, and conducts basis of estimate (BoE) for SPM activities.
- Drives affordability through monitoring of budget and spend.
- Fosters a collaborative culture that sustains momentum around engagement, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Provides clear assignments, helping team members connect their efforts to the bigger picture.
- Serves as a “strong voice for quality” and a role model for NG Values.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, business, operations, manufacturing, supply chain, or other related discipline
- 8+ years of relevant work experience in quality, program management, supply chain, engineering, and manufacturing
- 3+ years of experience leading teams and/or projects
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance. US Citizenship Required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ISO 9001 / AS9100 Quality Management System certification process
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Master’s Degree in an engineering or management field
- Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt
- ASQ Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Quality Engineer (CQE), and/or Quality Auditor (CQA)
- Experience facilitating Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities
- Defense industry experience, including interfacing with suppliers
- Experience as a Program or Project Manager, Quality Manager, Supplier Quality Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Engineering Manager, or Manufacturing Manager
- SAP Business System experience
- Solid written and verbal technical communication skills
- Currently active DoD SECRET clearance, or higher
Salary Range: $135,800 - $203,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
