Position: Manager, Strategic Accounts and Inside Sales

Position Type: Full-Time Employee

Location: Southern California, Remote

Experience: BS required, MS or PhD preferred, 10+ years genomics industry experience selling into commercial and academic accounts and 2+ years leadership experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute regional business plans by analyzing accounts, identifying growth opportunities, and mapping key decision-makers.
  • Conduct and document effective sales meetings, gather competitive intelligence, and maintain CRM records.
  • Build strong customer relationships by understanding pain points and aligning Watchmaker solutions with short- and long-term needs.
  • Travel for customer meetings, exhibitions, and networking to support business development efforts.
  • Present and explain Watchmaker's technical product features and NGS applications confidently.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries, samples, RFPs, and follow-ups to ensure satisfaction and trust.
  • Drive a disciplined sales process using CRM for prospecting, solution development, and pipeline management.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and communicate revenue expectations regularly.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to relay customer needs and ensure delivery excellence.
  • Lead, train, and mentor Inside Sales Specialists to enhance technical selling and product positioning.
  • Develop lead generation and qualification strategies; analyze campaign ROI for ongoing optimization.
  • Support sales enablement through tool development and partnership with Strategic Marketing on initiatives and events.
  • Territory includes: Southern CA, AZ, HI

Skills and Requirements



The candidate should have at minimum a BS in molecular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of relevant sales experience selling next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and/or other advanced genomics applications into high-throughput clinical sequencing labs, research hospitals, and Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs). 2+ years of leadership experience.

  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Comfortable with NGS applications with sufficient technical acumen to sell cutting edge molecular biology products
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport and earn trust
  • Incisive interrogation skills with outstanding attention to detail to uncover specific client pain points and needs around which to position a solution
  • Strategic territory management and planning
  • Proactive mindset and the ability to work independently as well as thrive in a team environment
  • Flexible in nature to accommodate a fast-growing product portfolio and change.
  • Strong organizational, task management, and prioritization skills
  • Adept at identifying market opportunities in highly technical and evolving applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled at maintaining control of the sales process, communicating well-developed value propositions, identifying and eliminating objections early, and closing business
  • Fully competent in Google Suite, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems. Able to learn and build in-depth knowledge of new technology tools
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills to motivate and coach a team.
  • Able to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Able to solve problems, adapt to change, and implement process improvements.

Education & Experience

  • BS required, MS or PhD preferred
  • A minimum 10 years selling in the genomics and life science tools industry experience (selling sophisticated consumable reagent kits a plus)
  • A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience

Compensation

The base compensation for the Inside Sales Manager role starts at $140,000-$160,000 attractive commission structure; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, EAP (employee assistance program), employer paid dental, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% match.
