Job summary

AIAA is seeking a Manager, Standards to lead its domestic and international standards program. You will guide development and publication of aerospace standards, and serve as liaison to ANSI and ISO, coordinating with volunteers and government representatives.

You will manage committees, train leaders, and drive standards initiatives while traveling domestically and internationally as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience with ISO and/or ANSI standards development processes strongly preferred
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, building consensus, and working with volunteer-led organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and daily management of AIAA's standards program.
  • Guide the development and publication of aerospace technical standards.
  • Serve as Committee Manager for ISO TC20 Subcommittees SC14, SC16, and SC17, and support US TAGs.
  • Liaise with ANSI and ISO, ensuring accreditation requirements are met, and act as Staff Liaison to SSC and CoS.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders while facilitating committee meetings.
  • Manage standards projects from development through publication, including schedules and documentation.
  • Build partnerships with other Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs).
  • Support standards marketing, outreach, training, contracts, awards, and other strategic initiatives.

Lead the Future of Aerospace Standards

AIAA is seeking a Manager, Standards to lead and grow its domestic and international standards program. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, collaborative professional who is passionate about advancing the aerospace industry through the development of high-quality technical standards.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Publishing and Education, this role provides leadership for AIAA's standards activities, working closely with volunteers, industry experts, government representatives, and international standards organizations. The Manager, Standards will oversee standards development programs, manage key committee activities, and help shape the future of aerospace standardization on both the national and global stage.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the strategic direction and daily management of AIAA's standards program.
  • Guide the development and publication of aerospace technical standards.
  • Serve as Committee Manager for ISO TC20 Subcommittees SC14 (Space Systems and Operations), SC16 (Uncrewed Aircraft Systems), and SC17 (Airport Infrastructure), and support U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs).
  • Serve as AIAA's liaison to ANSI and ISO, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, and act as Staff Liaison to the Standards Steering Committee (SSC) and Committees on Standards (CoS).
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders while facilitating committee meetings and standards activities.
  • Manage standards projects from development through publication, including schedules, documentation, editorial support, and distribution.
  • Build partnerships with other Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs), including AIA and SAE.
  • Support standards marketing, outreach, training, contracts, awards, and other strategic initiatives.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • At least 5-7 years of experience with ISO and/or ANSI standards development processes strongly preferred
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, building consensus, and working with volunteer-led organizations.
  • Strong organizational and relationship-building skills; aerospace industry knowledge preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
