Job Summary
As part of the Graham Holdings Retirement team, the Manager of Retirement Benefits is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's retirement benefits programs. This includes strategic planning, benefit implementations, plan administration, compliance, vendor management, communication with employees regarding retirement benefits, and helping to manage the workload across the team. The manager ensures that the company’s retirement benefits programs are competitive, compliant with all regulations, and aligned with the organization’s overall business strategy. We are seeking a qualified professional to join our team as a Manager or Senior Manager. The title and level will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
● Develop and implement retirement benefits strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives.
● Manage the administration of retirement plans, including 401(k), defined benefit plans, and other retirement savings programs.
● Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including ERISA, IRS, and DOL guidelines.
● Oversee vendor relationships, including external ERISA counsel, record keepers, actuaries, and consultants.
● Develop and deliver employee communication and education programs regarding retirement benefits.
● Analyze market trends and benchmarking data to ensure the competitiveness of the retirement benefits programs.
● Prepare and manage the retirement benefits budget.
● Coordinate, oversee, and record minutes of retirement committee meetings.
● Lead and mentor a team of retirement benefits professionals.
● Work closely with HR, legal, treasury, and finance departments to ensure seamless integration of retirement benefits with other company programs.
● Develop and maintain relationships with HR personnel across the company’s various business units.
Required Skills and Qualifications
● A bachelor’s degree in human resources, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
● 10+ years of experience in retirement benefits administration.
● Strong knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations.
● 3-5 years of experience managing DC and DB plans.
● Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
● Experience with vendor management, implementations, and contract negotiation.
● Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration systems.
● Excellent communication and presentation skills.
● Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with team members and multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
● Solid knowledge of and proficiency with Google applications, including Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Drive, and MS applications, including the ability to use Excel and its tools/formulas for handling large data sets.
● Experience with developing and implementing retirement benefits strategies, and preparing and managing retirement benefits budgets.
● Ability to work independently and maintain discretion when working with confidential information.
Preferred Skills
● Professional certifications such as CEBS, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP are a plus.
● Understanding of AI platforms and tools is a plus.
● Ability to lead and mentor a team of benefits professionals.

Work Location
The Company’s office is in Arlington, Virginia. A local hybrid structure is preferred, with work performed through a combination of remote and in-office, based on the demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences; however, this candidate would be required to be in the office for a significant portion of the employee’s ramp period, as well as periodic company-wide meetings and strategic planning sessions on an ongoing basis.
