Job summary

Boston Legacy FC seeks a hands-on Manager of Sports Turf & Grounds to maintain all training surfaces at Brockton Performance Center. You will work with the Director of Grounds to plan, schedule, and deliver professional-grade surfaces for training and events.

The role requires managing a Grounds team (full-time and part-time), coordinating with coaching staff on pitch prep, irrigation, and equipment placement, and ensuring safety and quality across surfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelors/Associate in turfgrass science or related field.
• 3+ years of high-level turfgrass experience, preferably sports turf.
• Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily maintenance of training surfaces: natural pitch with SubAir heating, ¾ natural pitch with drainage, three artificial pitches, and bubble dome.
• Lead turf care routines: mowing, line painting, spraying, fertilization, aeration, seeding, brushing, debris clearance, landscape upkeep.

The Role

The Manager, Sports Turf & Grounds at Boston Legacy FC is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day maintenance tasks of all training surfaces used at Boston Legacy FC Brockton Performance Center in Brockton, MA. This ideal candidate will deliver world-class playing surfaces at the professional level with a positive and proactive mindset. This position works closely with the Director of Grounds in planning and scheduling.

What You\'ll Do

• Oversee and maintain one natural pitch equipped with SubAir hydronic undersoil heating, ¾ natural pitch with drainage, three artificial turf pitches, and an artificial bubble dome.


• Execute comprehensive turf care routines, such as mowing, line painting, spraying, fertilization, aeration, seeding, brushing/blowing, debris clearance, and surrounding landscape upkeep.


• Proactively monitor, diagnose, and address turf health concerns, including pest pressure, disease, environmental stress, and wear patterns, by implementing plans to address issues effectively.


• Regularly perform surface testing to gather data on pitch quality and to drive maintenance strategies.


• Communicate with Coaching and Sporting Staff prior to and during training sessions for pitch preparation, irrigation management, and equipment positioning, if needed.


• Lead and manage full-time and part-time Grounds team members while respecting every other staff member and department across the organization.


• Collaborate with vendors and sales representatives to manage product deliveries and external services.


• Perform preventative maintenance on turf equipment for operational readiness.


• Assist with events hosted on artificial turf surfaces and inside the bubble dome through grooming, painting, cleaning, and equipment setup.


• Manage winter operations, including snow clearing across driveways, parking areas, and player entrances.


• Support additional responsibilities as assigned to advance Legacy’s commitment to growing women\'s soccer and building a championship-caliber organization.


• Opportunity to assist with matchday operations and special events at White Stadium once completed.

What You\'ll Bring

• Associate\'s or bachelor\'s degree in Turfgrass Science or a related pitch and/or 3+ years of high-level turfgrass experience, preferably in sports turf.


• Experience managing sand-based root zones and cool-season grasses, including Bluegrass and Ryegrass.


• Familiar with platforms like Google Workspace, Zoom, and SLACK.


• Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License within six months of hire.
