Job description

Employment Details:

  • Full Time (76 Hours per fortnight)
  • Fixed term until 31st December 2025
  • Remuneration: SCHCADS level 7 dependent on qualifications and experience + superannuation
  • 5 Weeks Annual Leave
  • Up to $15,900 for living expenses + up to $2,600 towards meals and entertainment (tax-free through NFP Salary Packaging)

About the position

We are seeking a highly experienced practitioner to collaborate with Out of Home Care, Child Protection, and Youth Justice practitioners. The role involves providing specialist AOD assessment, advice, coordination of complex care issues, risk management, education, and facilitating access to alcohol and drug treatment. The client focus is on high-risk young people in or exiting from Out of Home Care or Youth Justice Centres. Key stakeholders include the Department of Families Fairness and Housing, Child Protection, Youth Justice Services, Youth Justice Centres, and other youth service agencies. The Manager AOD OoHC Services will liaise with senior DFFH staff and other stakeholders to identify systemic gaps, make recommendations, and develop pathways to improve care coordination.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practice frameworks working with disadvantaged and marginalized young people, including AOD, Out of Home Care, and harm minimisation principles
  • Strong understanding of child/adolescent development, attachment, and trauma theories related to Youth AOD practice, care planning, and case management
  • Experience in leading critical reflection, applying theoretical frameworks, and referencing research to inform practice and decision-making; ability to mentor, coach, and inspire others
  • Effective communication skills, including preparing and delivering presentations, handling sensitive topics, and engaging with difficult questions
  • Experience presenting cases in professional forums, courts, or tribunals at a high level
  • High-level knowledge of the legislative and operational environment of Child Protection and Youth Justice systems, including Out of Home Care
