Job summary

Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Software Quality Manager 2 for our Calibration Laboratory in Linthicum, Maryland. The Calibration Laboratory handles the calibration of some 36,000 instruments and devices—both in house and through vendors—to meet program requirements. This manager, reporting directly to the Laboratory Manager, will lead and manage the team of Metrologists and the Software Team.

Metrologists are Subject Matter Experts on the science of measurement and calibration, developing measurement procedures and supporting the user community. Software Engineering maintains an internally developed application (SureCal) used by technicians and sold to customers, and supports an internal database that tracks all equipment through its calibration cycle. The manager also supports efforts to use SharePoint and related technology to improve customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Manage workflows and backlogs for both groups, balancing tactical needs with long-term strategic goals.
  • Serve as key interface between the teams and the Calibration Production Team.
  • Develop metrics and targets regarding the quality and efficiency of the work of the two teams and manage those targets.
  • Ensure that relevant requirements (PrOPS, Calibration Directives and others) are kept up to date and followed.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement and root cause/corrective actions in the defined areas; support similar activities elsewhere as required.
  • Determine a CMMI strategy for software and lead its implementation.
  • Develop, modify, apply, and maintain standards for software quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Conduct software inspection, testing, verification and validation.
  • Implement software development and maintenance processes and methods.
  • Ensure measures meet acceptable reliability standards.
  • Establish overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality program per project, process and contract requirements and objectives.
  • Ensure project and process control documentation are compliant with requirements, objectives, and contract.
  • Review software design, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements.
  • Perform or direct verification of software requirement allocations, traceability, and testability.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills, leadership in a team environment, resourcefulness, and ability to multi-task and coordinate assignments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field and 8 years of related experience; or Master’s degree and 6 years of related experience.
  • People management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving, including root cause analysis, solution development, corrective/preventative action and verification/validation.
  • Exposure to software and object‑oriented programming languages and their development and maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a STEM field.
  • Direct experience in software quality, software engineering, engineering management or metrology.
  • Five years of experience managing teams.
  • Experience with technical and project management.
Benefits and Compensation

Salary range: $139,800.00 - $209,800.00. Additional benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, paid time off, overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives for certain positions.
