Job description
Manager, Software Engineering -UX Foundations

Remote in Canada

Overview

Are you as passionate about creating modern, scalable user experiences as you are about developing engineering talent? Then Jobber might be the place for you! We're looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to lead our UX Foundations team, responsible for creating the structure and framework of Jobber's user experience across web and mobile platforms.

Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses, like your local plumbers, painters, and landscapers, to transform the way service is delivered through technology. With Jobber they can quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers, while providing an easy and professional customer experience. Running a small business today isn’t like it used to be—the way we consume and deliver service is changing rapidly, technology is evolving, and customers expect more. That’s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where, and when they want!

Our culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500 lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, we’ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011—but we’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers.

We help employees grow professionally; we have onboarding resources, tutorials, hackathons and buddies to support learnings and provide opportunities to innovate. We have a range of experience levels on teams which allows for mentor/mentee opportunities. Leaders at Jobber work with empathy and support employees to build healthy work-life harmony. Bring your dedication and passion to this job to fulfill your goals.

The Team

The Team: The UX Foundations team has evolved to focus on creating and maintaining a modern, scalable & consistent user experience for our Service Providers. Our mission is to make Jobber’s User Experience "Stupid Easy" by focusing on simplicity, consistency, and discoverability.

Team focus areas:

  • Design System (Atlantis): We maintain Jobber's component library for web and mobile platforms
  • Adoption Success: We support feature teams in implementing UX patterns and components
  • Horizontal Surfaces: We create the "frame" that unifies Jobber, including navigation and global UI elements
The Role

You'll lead a talented team of engineers ranging from Intermediate to Staff-level, supporting their growth while delivering impact across our three focus areas. You'll guide architectural decisions, collaborate with designers and product leaders, and balance operational maintenance with strategic initiatives.

Reporting to a Senior Manager of Software Engineering, the Manager of Software Engineering will lead and support their team members in developing their skills and advancing their careers—all while contributing to our mission of empowering small businesses. You'll also play a key role in shaping the technical direction of our platform, ensuring it remains reliable and high-performing as we scale Jobber.

Responsibilities
  • Balance team development with technical leadership. You're passionate about growing engineering talent while collaboratively building exceptional user experiences.
  • Prioritize maintenance alongside innovation. Make smart decisions about allocating resources between fixing bugs, supporting other teams, and developing new components and patterns.
  • Lead effective cross-team partnerships. Connect with engineering, design, and product teams to ensure coordinated delivery of UX improvements across Jobber.
  • Champion consistent user experiences. Work with product teams to implement design system patterns and components that create a cohesive experience for our customers.
  • Clear obstacles to productivity. Create an environment where your team can work efficiently by addressing process issues, technical limitations, and organizational barriers.
Qualifications
  • A track record of successfully leading engineering teams to deliver high-quality frontend solutions.
  • Technical expertise in component architecture and design systems, with strong knowledge of React/React Native or similar frameworks.
  • Experience building consistent user experiences across web and mobile platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and allocate team resources effectively.
  • Demonstrated success in shipping projects on time, even when requirements or technologies change.
  • Effective communication and mentorship skills to support your team's growth and success.
Nice-to-have
  • Previous experience with our development stack: React, React Native, Typescript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL.
  • Experience with building and maintaining design systems at scale.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and implementation practices.
  • Experience designing or implementing app-wide navigation systems and organizing content hierarchies in complex applications.
Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: At Jobber, compensation is transparent and aligned with experience. This role has a minimum annual salary of $169,200 CAD, a midpoint of $199,100 CAD, and a maximum salary of $228,900 CAD, reflecting progression from onboarding to impact.

We design our compensation to reflect skills, experience, and role complexity, with a broad range to support growth. Base salary is part of a total compensation package that includes equity rewards, annual health and wellness stipends, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind. You’ll also have access to a dedicated talent development program for coaching and career growth.

We value transparency and open conversations about compensation. If you have questions, we’re happy to discuss them throughout the hiring process.

What you can expect from Jobber
  • A total compensation package including extended health benefits, retirement match, and stock options.
  • A dedicated Talent Development team with coaching, learning, and leadership programs.
  • Breaks and time off policies that support well-being, including vacation, mental health days, and parental leave top-ups.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a growing, dynamic industry with impact.
  • A collaborative, supportive culture focused on customers.

We believe that diverse teams perform better and that fostering an inclusive work environment is a key part of growing a successful team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to accommodating applicants at any stage of the hiring process.
