Manager, Software Engineering (Merchant Engineering)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

The Merchant Data Platform is a backend, foundational service at Affirm. We are responsible for merchant data and identity across all merchant touchpoints. Our checkout-critical platform serves millions of requests per day, supports the onboarding of merchants across all onboarding touchpoints and maintains strict availability and latency SLAs given the criticality of the service. Further, the team maintains sophisticated pipelines that enrich our datasets for the purposes of merchant identification, risk analysis and fraud detection.

We are looking for a highly motivated manager to help build this team in Poland or in Spain. Come join us!

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow an engineering team that develops upon the merchant data platform core backend service
  • Work closely with the MDP North America team and ensure roadmaps and strategic goals are aligned and in sync
  • Mentor engineers on the team to help improve their designs, code quality, and testing.
  • Own availability, reliability, and performance of your team’s systems.
  • Partner with product managers to design and build best-in-class systems and processes
  • Partner with a diverse set of engineering teams who build solutions throughout the entire lifecycle of a Merchant at Affirm
  • Build relationships and engage with senior management in the organization

What We Look For

  • 7+ years of proven experience as a software engineer role with leadership responsibilities and 1+ years as an engineering manager.
  • Drive to change consumer financial services for the better.
  • Prior experience growing and managing a high performing engineering team.
  • Fluency in back end development.
  • Prior experience architecting, building, launching and maintaining consumer scale products.
  • Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills, particularly across geos.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and GAAP accounting is a plus.

Base Pay Grade - P

Equity Grade - Poland 5

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).
