Job description

Carbon Robotics is the leader in physical AI for agriculture, helping farmers become more profitable and sustainable. Its flagship product, the LaserWeeder™, is the world’s leading commercial laser weeding system with hundreds of units operated by farmers in 15 countries worldwide. LaserWeeder combines computer vision, AI, robotics, and high-powered lasers to identify weeds and destroy them with sub‑millimeter precision—no herbicides, hand labor, or soil disturbance required. Growers achieve weed control cost reductions of up to 80% and crop yield increases of 5–50%, with payback in one to three years. The system is powered by Carbon AI’s Large Plant Model (LPM), trained on 150 million labeled plants, and can start weeding any crop or field in minutes. The company's second product is Carbon Autonomy, the most dependable tractor autonomy solution. Carbon Autonomy includes a retrofit tractor autonomy kit for John Deere tractors, autonomy software, and remote supervision for real‑time interventions if required. Carbon Robotics is based in Seattle, Washington State, USA and has raised $185 million in capital since 2018 from leading investors including NVIDIA’s NVentures and BOND.

As a Software Engineering Manager (Frontend/Mobile) at Carbon Robotics, you’ll lead the team building the command center for the future of agriculture. You’ll sit at the intersection of AI, robotics, and user experience, translating deep technical complexity into intuitive, reliable tools that farmers depend on every day.

Working closely with world‑class mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, you’ll guide the development of high‑performance web platforms and rugged, mission‑critical mobile applications. Your team’s work will be the primary interface between humans and our cutting‑edge robotic systems operating in the real world.

This is a hands‑on leadership role. You won’t just set direction, you’ll actively contribute to architecture, code, and execution. And when needed, you’ll go directly to the field to ensure our products perform where it matters most: on the farm.

What you’ll do:
  • Lead and grow a team building web and mobile applications that interface with both cloud services and robotic systems
  • Contribute directly to system architecture and code; this is a deeply technical, hands‑on role
  • Partner cross‑functionally with product managers and mechanical, electrical, and backend engineering teams
  • Drive execution across the full software development lifecycle: planning, design, implementation, testing, and deployment
  • Set priorities, allocate resources, and ensure projects are delivered on time and at a high standard
  • Resolve technical and organizational challenges across teams
  • Mentor engineers and elevate the team’s technical capabilities and output
  • Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders across the company
  • Foster a culture of ownership, fast iteration, and high accountability in a startup environment
  • Participate in field testing, including on‑site farm visits, to validate real‑world performance
  • Build an in office culture (5 days/week)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success:
  • Experience managing frontend (TypeScript, React) and/or mobile (Flutter) engineering teams
  • Ability to operate as a Lead Engineer in your area of expertise
  • Strong understanding of deploying and maintaining web and mobile applications in systems that integrate with backend services and hardware/robotics
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working across multidisciplinary teams
  • A leadership style that thrives in an in‑office, highly collaborative environment
  • Willingness to spend time in the field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
