Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. is seeking a Shop Manager in Indiana. The role focuses on managing shop staff, coordinating fleet maintenance, and ensuring high productivity across service centers. You will lead hiring, mentoring, scheduling, and development while driving process improvements and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• 4 years of experience in fleet maintenance.
• A valid driver's license.
• ASE certifications preferred? (preferred qualifications)
• CDL preferred? (preferred qualifications)
• LTL experience preferred? (preferred qualifications)
• Ability to work various shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends? (preferred qualifications)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage employees and contingent workers, including hiring, mentoring, scheduling, training and development and offer promotion, discipline and termination recommendations.
• Support leadership in overseeing equipment maintenance and out-of-service equipment at outlying service centers.
• Facilitate the Job Selection/Shift Bid (JSP) process for shop employees.
• Oversee routine maintenance functions to ensure equipment proficiency and productivity; ensure all work orders are closed accurately and on time.
• Ensure inventory levels and cycle counts are handled correctly within thresholds.
• Review trends in parts utilization, uptime and non-movement to optimize shop efficiency.
• Monitor shop safety, service, quality, efficiency, and maintenance compliance.
• Ensure company procedures and DOT policies are followed by all shop employees.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Shop Manager at XPO

• 4 years of experience in fleet maintenance
• A valid driver's license

• Less-than-Truckload (LTL) experience
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends
• Able to effectively organize and present information with solid verbal and written communication skills

What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Manage employees and contingent workers, including hiring, mentoring, scheduling, training and development and offer promotion, discipline and termination recommendations
• Support leadership in overseeing equipment maintenance and out-of-service equipment at outlying service centers supported by the shop
• Facilitate the Job Selection/Shift Bid (JSP) process for shop employees
• Oversee routine maintenance functions to ensure equipment proficiency and the highest productivity levels; ensure all work orders, including commercial work orders, are closed accurately and on time
• Ensure shop cycle counts and inventory levels are handled correctly, including movement and non-movement of inventory within assigned thresholds
• Review and analyze trends in parts utilization, gains, shortages, usage, uptime and non-movement in a way that ensures the highest efficiency and productivity of the shop
• Monitor shop for safety, service, quality, efficiency, financial controls and maintenance compliance
• Ensure company procedures, DOT policies and other required standard work instructions are followed by all shop employees

Shop Managers are required to:

• Frequently lift 50 lbs. and occasionally lift greater than 75 lbs.
• Safely walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
• Work outdoors in inclement weather
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
