Responsibilities

  • Provides primary managerial direction and personnel admin for direct report staff (training, supervising, timesheets, evaluations).
  • Collaborates with department managers to determine security needs.
  • Plans and implements comprehensive security strategies, including surveillance and access control.
  • Oversees security operations budget and documents processes.
  • Gathers security intelligence and implements preventative measures.
  • Coordinates responses to emergencies and alarms; compiles reports.
  • Operates Surveillance Security and Access Control to oversee monitoring, auditing, reporting.
  • Keeps abreast of new security technologies and surveillance methods.
  • Ensures compliance with safety policies and security regulations.
  • Participates in Safety Certification programs.
  • Leads and supports METRO's safety culture to protect employees and patrons.

Job description

Oversees METRO’s security operations and staff. Develops security strategies, implements security procedures, and supervises contract and assigned security personnel. Creates security policies and procedures, controls budgets for security operations, and coordinates security staff. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties
  • Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g., training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.
  • Collaborates with department managers to determine security needs.
  • Plans and implements comprehensive security strategies, including Surveillance Security and Access Control.
  • Oversees the security operations budget, monitors expenses, and documents processes.
  • Gathers security intelligence and implement preventative measures.
  • Coordinates responses to emergencies and alarms; compiles reports.
  • Operates and uses Surveillance Security and Access Control Operations to maintain effective oversight of Monitoring, Review, Auditing, and Reporting.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and advancements in security services. Maintains extensive knowledge of surveillance techniques.
  • Ensures compliance with company safety policies and security industry regulations.
  • Participates in the Safety and Security Certification program.
  • Provides leadership and the highest level of support and customer focus to continuously improve METRO's safety culture and security practices to best protect Metro employees, patrons, and the communities we serve from harm.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies Safety Management System (SMS) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $97,400 - $130,400

Education Requirement

High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Criminal Justice, or related degree is preferred. Additional training in security, law enforcement, or video surveillance systems is preferred.

Years & Experience Required


Minimum eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in security-related positions; to include three (3) years supervisory/management experience. Extensive experience in preventing illegal activity and performing access control. Experience with participating in projects as committee member, or subject matter expert. Deep subject matter knowledge in safety regulations, security standards, training approaches, and Safety Management Systems requirements. Experience with FTA’s Safety and Security Certification program.

Knowledge & Skills Required

A valid State of Texas Driver’s License is required. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and monitor the activities of field personnel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with all organizational levels and third-party contractors. Excellent interpersonal skills. Transit Safety and Security Professional certification is preferred. National Incident Management System certifications required: IS-200, IS-265, IS-700, IS-800. Knowledge of video surveillance equipment, including equipment on transit vehicles. Knowledge of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
