CONNECTICUT GREEN BANK

MANAGER, SCHOOL FLEET ELECTRIFICATION

SUMMARY

The Manager of School Fleet Electrification is a member of the Connecticut Green Bank's ("Green Bank") Innovation team, with a specific focus on school fleet electrification and supporting the Fleet Electrification Accelerator program ("Accelerator").

The Innovation team is responsible for expanding the Green Bank into new markets, including clean transportation. The Accelerator was created to support Connecticut's municipalities in transitioning their school bus fleets to electric vehicles, thereby reducing emissions and energy costs. This position is responsible for building and maintaining long-term relationships with school districts and school bus operators - with a particular focus on fleet managers, superintendents, and school business officials - and for driving those relationships from planning through to financed deployment. The Manager is responsible for outreach and engagement, overseeing technical assessments of bus fleets and bus yard electric infrastructure (performed by a consultant) coordination with school district leaders and boards of education, deployment of Green Bank school bus financing products, and lifetime relationship management.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Individual responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Director of Innovation and Senior Manager of Clean Transportation to build a pipeline of Fleet Electrification Accelerator participants prepared to move from planning to deployment;
  • In conjunction with the Green Bank's Marketing, Investment, and Innovation teams, creating and leading the execution of outreach plans to increase awareness of and participation in the Accelerator, particularly in Distressed Municipalities;
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with prospective program participants - including school superintendents, school business officials, transportation directors, and fleet managers - as well as student transportation providers throughout Connecticut to develop project opportunities;
  • Supporting Accelerator participants from initial engagement through deployment and financing, including presenting the program and Green Bank offerings, explaining electric fleet financing opportunities, and managing district participation through the process;
    Supervising the fleet electrification planning consultant to ensure district plans are actionable and aligned with Green Bank financing products;
  • Working in collaboration with other Green Bank employees and consultants to identify prospective projects and provide comprehensive support;
  • Partnering with key stakeholders, including consultants, and CGB staff, to move projects from planning to projects;
  • Identifying market gaps and new opportunities for existing and new Green Bank offerings in fleet electrification;
  • Representing the Green Bank in relevant board, committee, public meetings, conferences, and networking events;
  • Supporting internal and external reports on Accelerator portfolio and district progress; and
  • Performing other duties as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The following minimum qualifications in knowledge, skill and ability are required:

  • Knowledge of and direct experience with school bus fleet operations, transportation management, school district or town management, or fleet electrification;
  • Knowledge of the school district procurement environment, including the challenges related to capital planning, contracting with operators, and public funding constraints;
  • Strong interpersonal skills involving the ability to work with other parties, at all levels, internally and externally;
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously through oral and written communications;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, exercise judgment, think critically and creatively, and take initiative; and
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software programs as necessary.

General knowledge of electric vehicle technologies, charging infrastructure, and fleet electrification policies and programs is a plus. Knowledge of customer relationship management and/or workflow applications, including Salesforce, is also a plus though not required.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

General Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of experience in fleet management, clean transportation, program management, or a related field - ideally with demonstrable ability in school district, municipal, or clean transportation contexts.

Substitutions Allowed:

  • A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, public administration, business administration, transportation planning, or other related field may be substituted for two (2) additional years of general experience. In this scenario, the applicant must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
  • The position reports directly to the Director of Innovation and the Senior Manager of Clean Transportation.
  • The position is based in the Green Bank's Hartford or South Norwalk offices, with opportunities for some remote work.
  • Travel to offsite meetings and presentations is required.
  • Expected salary ranges from $100,000 - $120,000, but the final salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
