Job summary

AMSURG, a national leader in ambulatory surgery center services, is seeking a Billing and Compliance Manager to establish and monitor standard patient billing and collections processes across the regions. This staff role emphasizes HIPAA privacy, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with the Revenue Management Team.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Business and at least five years of healthcare billing experience, with knowledge of ASC operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of healthcare billing experience.
  • Knowledge of Ambulatory Surgery Center operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish standard agreed upon Patient Billing and Collections process for the Region.
  • Act as SME on all matters relating to billing and collections.
  • Support, update and advise internal and external customers in billing and collections issues.
  • Recommend and Implement improvements to the Billing and Collection processes, and monitor and measure progress.
  • Keep abreast of all federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws affecting patient billing and collection activities in assigned Region.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure proper and timely billing and collections of fees due services rendered.
  • Train ASCs on proper business office policies and procedures.
  • Perform assessments of business office policies and processes annually.
  • Assess performance of billing systems.
  • Identify, train and implement preferred billing systems at Centers.
  • Assist ASCs in performing quarterly and/or annual statistical reports or forms required by the state and/or AMSURG.
  • Monitor claims periodically to ensure that ASCs are following necessary Medicare Rules and Regulations.
  • Remediate results of periodic Chart Audits conducted by Internal Assurance.
  • Assist in performing HIPAA audits for AMSURG.
  • Remain alert to new business opportunities.
  • Evaluate the billing and collection system of any potential acquisitions and provide a written report of findings and recommendations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for creating and monitoring standard policies and procedures for all patient billing and collections; ensuring HIPAA privacy compliance for assigned entities; serve as a key member of the Revenue Management Team;This is a staff function with no line authority of direct reports. Minimum 50% travel.

Work Schedule:Remote with 50% travel

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish standard agreed upon Patient Billing and Collections process for the Region
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) on all matters relating to billing, collections.
  • Support, update and advise internal and external customers in billing and collections issues.
  • Recommend and Implement improvements to the Billing and Collection processes, and monitor and measure progress.
  • Keep abreast and current of all federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws affecting patient billing and collection activities in assigned Region.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.

Ability to understand, read, write and speak English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to successfully write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and correct errors. Ability to understand and interpret basic financial data. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Other Qualifications:
Must be able to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner. Must be able to work well with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail oriented and organized. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercise good judgment and positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as approved in advance.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience. A minimum of 5 years of healthcare billing experience is required. Knowledge of Ambulatory Surgery Center operations is preferred.
