Job summary

Invenergy, a leading North American energy developer and operator, seeks a Manager to lead regulatory affairs in the Western region. You will manage regulatory relationships, secure permits for generation and transmission projects, and monitor evolving policy.

The role interacts with state regulators, ISO operators, and industry coalitions to advance Invenergy’s projects. You will report to the VP of Regulatory Affairs (Western Region), with a hybrid schedule combining in-office and remote work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree in business, economics, finance, law, political science, environmental policy or engineering; MBA/MA or law degree preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of industry experience.
  • Travel required, varying by location.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs team in other regions and manage staff or consultants.
  • Manage external counsel and consultants.
  • Build relationships with regulators, utilities, TSOs, and trade associations.
  • Engage with state agencies, PUCs, and energy offices in the West.
  • Coordinate with Invenergy teams in development, asset management, legal, transmission, and origination.
  • Develop and advocate regulatory policies to strengthen Invenergy’s competitive position.
  • Lead coalitions on topics like ISO rules, interconnection, and market expansion.
  • Assist in market registration and project participation in relevant markets.
  • Prepare annual budgets for trade organizations and consultants.
  • Participate in meetings and hearings; provide updates to internal teams.

Job Description
Position Overview

The Manager, Regulatory Affairs will represent Invenergy before and manage relationships with state economic and environmental regulators, transmission system operators, and regional trade associations in the West on behalf of Invenergy’s existing assets as well as its pipeline of development projects. This individual will be responsible for the development, advocacy, implementation and monitoring of regulations as they apply to the construction, interconnection, and operation of generation and transmission projects. This individual will also be responsible for obtaining regulatory approvals for Invenergy-led initiatives and commercial transactions. This position will report to the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for the Western Region.

Invenergy follows a hybrid schedule, working in office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the other Regulatory Affairs team members in other regions and manage other staff members or consultants as appropriate.
  • Manage external counsel and consultants.
  • Build personal relationships with external stakeholders managing regulatory issues, including those with leadership positions at entities like public utility commissions, regional transmission entities (CAISO), regional trade organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage with the relevant state agencies and other stakeholders in conjunction with or at the direction of development and government affairs.
  • Engage with state agency staff equivalents (at PUC, State Energy Office, etc.) in the West.
  • Build personal relationships and communicate regularly with Invenergy personnel in development, asset management, legal, transmission, interconnection and origination functions.
  • Develop, advocate and implement policy changes in regulatory forums that will further the competitive position of the company, particularly regarding Invenergy’s projects.
  • Form and lead coalitions of peer companies on issue-focused topics, such as ISO rules concerning interconnection, transmission development, and market expansion.
  • Assist in data collection for market registration, project participation in relevant markets.
  • Prepare annual budgets for trade organizations, consultants, etc.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and hearings.
  • Provide real-time, weekly, bi-weekly and quarterly updates to relevant internal business groups.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Preferably a BS or BA in Business, Economics, Finance, Law, Political Science, Environmental Policy, or Engineering or commensurate job experience. MBA, MA or law degree preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of industry experience
  • Travel required, which will vary based on employee location.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of organized power markets.
  • Knowledge of FERC and NERC standards related to transmission and interconnections, including Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT) preferred.
  • Base knowledge of electricity market rules (day ahead, real time, ancillary services, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Base Pay

Base Pay: $129,000.00 - 155,000.00 USD Annual

Bonus: 25% - 40%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education and skills.
