MANAGER, RE-FLIGHT OPERATIONS ENGINEERING

The Refurbishment Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of booster refurbishment operations at the Cape Canaveral launch site. The manager will be responsible for building and managing a team of highly skilled engineers in addition to managing the scope of work to be performed on each flight proven booster.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage engineering resources responsible for refurbishing recovered Falcon 9 boosters
  • Manage refurb scope and work content flight over flight
  • While maintaining mission reliability, drive changes and efficiencies into the refurbishment process using advanced metrics to drive down takt time
  • Maintain refurbishment schedule and elevate concerns to leadership
  • Collaborate with vehicle engineering and west coast refurbishment team in order to drive consistency in work scope
  • Coordinate labor needs with technician manager and identify resources shortages should they exist
  • Run weekly meetings with Hawthorne in order to elevate concerns and provide awareness to the rest of the company
  • Provide program updates to Cape and Hawthorne leadership
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of professional experience leading complex engineering projects or teams
  • Experience in a management capacity
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience hiring and conducting performance reviews
  • Experience with Falcon 9, Dragon, and payload/fairing integration
  • Experience with hazardous operations
  • Experience in writing test plans and test procedures
  • Experience with complex, multi-disciplinary system assemblies
  • Past work experience, internships, team/personal projects with aerospace vehicles/payloads, automotive, aircraft, marine assemblies
  • Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers
  • Ability to work in high stress launch operation environments
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to pass Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center background checks
  • May be required to support on nights and weekends when required by mission milestones
  • Work occasionally performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
