Qualifications

Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Manager, Radiological Engineering to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

The Manager, Radiological Engineering is responsible for leading and managing a group of professional technical resources comprised of engineers, health physicists, subcontractors and/or other professionals. Manages resources to provide successful radiological engineering deliverables in support of SRMC operational facilities, facility design and modifications, radiological protection program, technologies, and customer support.

Responsibilities
  • Defines objectives, develops strategies, and manages resources to achieve goals based upon effective interaction with management/customers.
  • Establishes and effectively communicates expectations to subordinates to ensure high engineering discipline standards and quality are maintained.
  • Manages engineering commitments assigned to the group via schedules (e.g., POW, POD) and tracking systems (e.g., STAR, APS), utilizing the resources assigned, for on time delivery of the desired engineering product(s).
  • Teams seamlessly with peer engineering managers to support the larger business objectives or major engineering issue resolutions facing the organization or department.
  • Provides leadership and direction to achieve long term improvements for the scope and function of the department.
  • Provides guidance, direction, and support to direct reports to resolve questions, issues, and other matters ranging from technical to personnel in nature.
  • Applies sophisticated radiological engineering and health physics principles learned through formal education and extensive work experience for multiple new, complex facilities/projects.
  • Provides advanced and wide-ranging technical, operational, and regulatory guidance on the company’s Radiological Protection issues that require innovative solutions.
  • Performs complex innovative assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards, while considering the economic impacts.
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for radiation protection procedures that perform complex and advanced radiological calculations, calibrations, data reviews, regulatory reviews, and assessments.
  • Incorporates innovation and ingenuity in problem solving for the reduction of cost and/or improvement areas.
  • Conducts peer review of complex tests and calculations for validity.
  • Provides briefings, presentations, technical papers, reports, and memoranda to customers and company’s internal and external stakeholders.
  • Functions as lead or SME within Radiological related task teams, technical committees, and project design teams. Represent the company in technical exchanges with other DOE sites and commercial industries.
  • Develops and presents technical reports and lectures of assigned tasks to peers, facility personnel, and senior management.
  • Develops and supports maintenance of technical procedures that provide adequate radiation protection for personnel performing work within a radiological environment.
  • Represent the company with the Energy Facility Contractor's Group (EFCOG) radiation protection technical group, function as the Radiation Protection Program document subject matter expert, act as a DOE interface, and function as the 10CFR835 subject matter expert.
  • Engineering responsibilities for design and modifications to existing facilities. Maintain responsiblities to the engineering organization (interface with design authority/services, produce engineering documents per the E7 manual (e.g., ESRs, TRs, CLCs, ECAs).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience; or
  • Master’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or related engineering or scientific discipline
  • Thorough knowledge of health physics concepts, principles, and techniques; general knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, and ANSI standards that provide guidance and requirements for radiation protection programs.
  • Ability to work with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, and HOTSPOT codes.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience in leadership
  • Previous or current experience at the Savannah River Site
