Job description

Manager, Quantitative Researcher/Developer

Join to apply for the Manager, Quantitative Researcher/Developer role at Venerable.

This management role will contribute to the Quantitative Research and Development functions of our Hedging, Risk Management, and Investment teams. It leads the development of proprietary systems and tools to support our hedge program, investment portfolio, and overall business management. This includes trading systems, back-testing tools, valuation software, analytics, reporting, capital markets research, and various models.

Principle Responsibilities:
  • Act as subject matter expert in the analysis, valuation, and use of derivative positions to hedge capital market risk exposures of variable annuity liabilities and/or other risk exposures.
  • Support our trading desk and contribute to research efforts to solve market-related challenges, developing practical solutions and tools.
  • Own bespoke business systems, data sets, & models for our derivatives trading desk, acting as the primary consultant for systems bridging business and technology, including our trading platform “Avatar”.
  • Design or enhance code libraries and tools for strategic hedging, risk management, and business decisions.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of market parameters and their impact on VA products and financial/derivative instruments.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed.
  • Apply scalable technology to support the trading desk and business, aiming to enhance efficiency.
  • Act as a communication liaison between business and IT.
  • Manage large data sets, consult on database structures, organize data, and optimize databases.
  • May manage a team and/or coach and develop junior colleagues.
Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Financial Mathematics or related; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 7+ years of experience in a highly technical derivatives-related role with accountability for business results; insurance variable-annuity experience is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, proactive in seeking change, managing multiple priorities, and completing projects.
  • Customer-centric mindset, understanding business drivers, and delivering value.
  • Deep understanding of equity and rate derivatives pricing, markets, and flows, plus fixed income products; VA features and embedded options are a plus.
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement novel ideas into business solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to bridge business needs and IT solutions.
  • Leadership and coaching abilities for junior staff.
  • Programming experience in Python, C#, C++, VBA, etc.
  • Knowledge of systems design, development, reporting tools, SQL, Power BI, AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3), and data analysis with Python or R.
