Position Summary
The Quality Manager 3 is responsible for the entire Quality function at the Mission Enabling Products Structures operating unit in San Diego, CA and reports to the Site Director. The Quality Manager is responsible for leading teams of Quality Engineers and Quality Inspectors who support the design, manufacture, and test of advanced composite structures for space and aerospace applications. The Quality Manager is responsible for maintaining a robust Quality Management System including certifications for both AS9100 and NADCAP processes.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership
Communicate, manage, and achieve site/business unit strategic and tactical objectives as they relate to the Quality function.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, inclusive teamwork, and disciplined root cause problem solving.
Provide cross-functional leadership by facilitating collaboration between various departments, including Engineering, Operations, and Program Management.
Strengthen the Quality teams through the performance management process, including individual and group goal setting, coaching, and personnel development.
Ensure succession plans are in place and mentor key talent to assume increased levels of responsibility.
Execution
Accountable for meeting or exceeding safety, quality, delivery, and cost expectations for internal and external customers.
Lead the Quality Engineering and Quality Inspection teams in providing products and services that address all quality requirements.
Quality Engineering responsibilities include program quality plans, review and approval of Manufacturing Work Instructions, and processing of quality non-conformances.
Quality Inspection responsibilities include performing mechanical dimensional inspections and non-destructive inspections.
Accountable for maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System including AS9100 and NADCAP certifications.
Responsible for ensuring the Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) process captures and reports data.
Own and improve Daily Management processes within the Quality function.
Collect, analyze, and report metrics/key performance indicators and take appropriate action to improve performance.
Ensure financial operating integrity by supporting financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Advocate for a safe, secure, and ethical working environment.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 9 years' relevant experience or 7 years' experience with a Master's degree; engineering or quality disciplines preferred.
Relevant work experience should include conducting or managing internal audits, aerospace industry experience, and knowledge of mechanical and non-destructive inspection techniques.
5+ years of experience managing other managers and teams.
Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems (AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP).
Training in lean principles required, with experience in root cause corrective action (RCCA) tools and processes preferred.
Expertise in MS Office required; proficiency in ERP and CAD/PLM systems preferred.
Ability to engage at all levels of the organization to provide solutions and coach others.
Strong passion for achieving results in a fast-paced aerospace engineering and manufacturing environment.
Excellent oral and written communication, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of advanced composites engineering and manufacturing processes.
Experience with Supplier Quality and Performance Management.
Planning and budgeting experience.

Salary Range: $154,600 - $231,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
