This Manager, Provider Contracting serves as an integral member of the Provider Contracting Team and reports to the Provider Contracting Senior Manager. This role assists in developing the strategic direction and management of the day-to-day contracting and network management activities for a local territory.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage complex contracting and negotiations for fee-for-service and value-based reimbursements with hospitals and providers.
- Build and nurture provider relationships and seek value-based business opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with matrix partners including Claims Operations, Medical Management, Credentialing, Legal, Medical Economics, Compliance, Sales, Marketing, and Service.
- Develop strategic positioning for provider contracting, networks, and risk arrangements.
- Contribute to alternative network initiatives and develop network analytics.
- Meet cost targets while maintaining an adequate network to ensure competitiveness.
- Implement initiatives to improve total medical costs and quality.
- Assess clinical informatics and provide consultative expertise to external provider partners.
- Analyze and project financial impacts of provider contracts and terms.
- Create HCP agreements aligning with operational standards and provider expectations.
- Resolve complex provider service complaints through research and negotiation.
- Manage key provider relationships and interface with business staff.
- Understand the provider landscape in the assigned geographic area.
- Ensure accurate contract loading, implementation, and maintenance.
- Provide guidance or expertise to less experienced team members.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Finance, Economics, Healthcare, or Business; significant industry experience may substitute.
- 3+ years of healthcare provider contracting and negotiating experience.
- Experience in developing provider relationships and understanding complex reimbursement models.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Reliable internet connection if working remotely (minimum 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload).
