Job summary

BDO USA is seeking a Construction Project Manager to lead residential construction projects from ideation through completion. You will plan, oversee, and coordinate with general contractors, homeowners, and project staff to ensure scope, budget, and schedule compliance.

Responsibilities include developing detailed plans, managing contracts, reporting progress to stakeholders, and maintaining adherence to project management standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, engineering, architecture, planning, business administration, preferred
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in construction management role, required
  • Experience with management of federal funds, specifically CDBG-DR housing, preferred
  • Risk management experience in project management, preferred
  • Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control, and production of all phases of residential construction, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Defines project scopes and objectives, including review and approval of cost estimates
  • Prepares project plans, including workflows, detailed schedules, procedures, and tools for day-to-day tasks
  • Manages contracts and communicates expected deliverables
  • Anticipates and adjusts project plans for efficient execution
  • Develops clear plans that lead general contractors to completion
  • Coordinates information flow between contractor, team, and client
  • Leads and ensures project reporting tasks are completed and updated
  • Provides updates to stakeholders on strategy, adjustments and progress
  • Updates project management development, tools, regulations, and client requests
  • Oversees contractors to follow up on open items and track issues
  • Coordinates activities of assigned general contractors within scope, time, budget constraints
  • Communicates with team in clear, effective manner
  • Pre-construction meetings with GC, design staff and homeowners as needed
  • Develops and manages project timetable and completion schedule
  • Other duties as required

JOB DESCRIPTION

Construction Project Managers are responsible for planning, overseeing and leading residential construction projects from ideation through completion. This role requires interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders, typically managing several projects and project tasks simultaneously. Under the direction of the Construction Project Director, they oversee the completion of project tasks and monitor adherence to perpetual project management process standards. The Construction Project Manager must have knowledge and experience in residential construction, schedule management, vendor management, and Green Building Standards. Knowledge of Xactimate is preferred.

Job Duties
  • Defines project scopes and objectives, including review and approval of cost estimates
  • Prepares project plans, including workflows, detailed schedules, procedures, and any other tools necessary in the development and implementation of day-to-day project tasks
  • Manages contracts and agreements by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
  • Anticipates and adjusts project plans for the efficient execution of project tasks
  • Develops clear, straightforward plans that lead the general contractors in the completion of project tasks
  • Coordinates the flow of information from the general contractor, the team and/or to the client regarding the project
  • Coordinates with support areas in the benefit of project execution
  • Leads and ensures that project reporting tasks are completed and properly updated. Prepare comprehensive project status reports, as needed
  • Provides project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
  • Updates information on the project management development, tools, regulations, and client requests
  • Utilizes industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project executionOversees the performance of general contractors to follow up on open items and track issues
  • Coordinates activities of their assigned general contractors for the purpose of achieving the goal of a given project, within the specified scope, time, and budget constraints
  • Communicates with their team members in clear, effective, and specific manner
  • Participates in pre-construction meeting with GC, Design Staff and homeowners as needed
  • Develops, executes, and manages the project timetable and completion schedule by prioritizing tasks, accounting for anticipated and unanticipated delays to weather or changes to specifications and plans, and makes recommendations to resolve delay issues
  • Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May supervise Construction Project Assistants and contracted staff to include site inspectors
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, engineering, architecture, planning, business administration, preferred
Experience
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in construction management role, required
  • Project development experience, including project management, risk management, controls, scheduling, budgeting, planning, auditing, systems processes, etc., preferred
  • Experience with management of federal funds, specifically CDBG-DR housing, preferred
  • Risk management experience in project management, preferred
  • Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control, and production of all phases of residential construction, preferred
License/Certifications
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP), preferred
Software
  • Experience with scheduling or program management tool such as MS Project or Primavera, preferred
  • Experience with cost estimation software such as Xactimate, preferred
  • Proficiency in the basic MS Office tools including Excel, Power Point as well as Visio & Smartsheet, preferred

  • Excellence in gathering help needed in developing a working project management plan, preferred
  • Knowledge in project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices, preferred
