The purpose of this position is for the implementation, direction and overall leadership of the Thermoforming department based on manufacturing operations and coordinating operational activities with peer Managers throughout D&W's organization.

SAFETY

• Follows plant safety procedures and guidelines; wears and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Informs supervisor of safety issues; reports any workplace injury or incident immediately
• Follow plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices, or GMP's
• Actively participates in the D&W safety improvement process/activities, e.g. Hazard Identification, Safety Suggestions, Safety Teams etc.
  
  
  

Responsibilities

• Directs and manage designated department operations to meet safety, quality and production objectives.
• Daily oversight of all processes functions in department
• Manages labor costs by maximizing shift productivity
• Drive continuous improvement processes and techniques in all manufacturing areas
• Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
• Directly supervises a team of hourly production employees
• Analyze data and product specifications to determine and establish quality and reliability objectives of the finished product
• Responsible for planning and directing the layout of equipment, workflow, operations methods, and staffing/workforce utilization.
• Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives
• Partner with support departments to improve all aspects of the manufacturing process in order to reach higher performance goals and ensure future growth.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Responsibilities include safety policy implementation, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Develop and coach staff members to insure desired skill levels are reached and continued improvement can be measured.
• Implement changes using Continuous Improvement concepts.
• Support SQF through compliance with SQF standard practices and policies
• Assist SQF teams, audits, and documentation as necessary
• Responsible for staffing and candidate selection, hiring, goal setting, and reviews of departmental staff
• Provides direction, development and leadership to departmental staff
• In absence of the Department Manager, the roles and responsibilities of this position will be fulfilled as designated, documented, and approved by the Plant Manager
  
  
  

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in manufacturing, industrial engineering, business or related field
• 5+ years experience in manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
• Computer skills required for this position include a working knowledge of Microsoft EXCEL, Word and Outlook.
• Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
• Self-directed and independent with strong communication skills
• Ability to work credibly across all levels of the organization (production floor and senior levels) to engage and inspire others in driving changes and performance improvement will be considered.
• Plastic process in sheet extrusion and thermoforming preferred
