Job summary

Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking a senior engineering leader to oversee bridge and culvert construction projects across North America. You will guide front-line teams, manage budgets, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while coordinating with Procurement and Operations to keep projects on schedule.

The role emphasizes safety culture, reliability, and collaboration with both internal teams and contractors, offering meaningful impact within CPKC’s engineering organization.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 4+ years of railroad bridge construction experience.
  • Passport with ability to travel to U.S./Canada is an asset.
  • Ability to manage budgets with Procurement Team for RFPs and contractor selection.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and strong written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and issue construction RFPs with Procurement Team.
  • Direct scheduling, execution and material ordering for bridge/culvert construction.
  • Plan and coordinate track block plans with Operations.
  • Track and manage bridge/culvert projects within assigned budgets.
  • Conduct safety testing of contractors to verify policy adherence.
  • Audit projects to verify compliance with CPKC standards.
  • Ensure environmental requirements are met with Environmental Team.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Take on a leadership role within CPKC’s Engineering Department and help shape the future of our rail network. As a front-line leader, you will oversee bridge and culvert construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget in accordance with CPKC standards. You’ll cultivate a culture of safety, reliability, and excellence by guiding both CPKC and contractor teams and supporting the efficient movement of our railway network. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Work with CPKC’s Procurement Team to develop and issue construction Request for Proposals (RFPs) and select contractors
  • Direct the scheduling, execution and material ordering for bridge and culvert construction projects
  • Plan and coordinate track block plans with Operations department
  • Track and manage bridge and culvert construction projects within assigned budgets
  • Conduct safety testing of bridge and culvert contractors to verify adherence with CPKC safety and policy requirements
  • Conduct audits of bridge and culvert projects to verify work completion in accordance with CPKC standards
  • Ensure compliance with environmental requirements and work with Environmental Team to plan work
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of 4 years of railroad bridge construction experience
  • Valid passport with ability to travel to U.S./CAN without restrictions is an asset
  • Ability to effectively manage budgets and work withProcurement Team to issue construction RFPs and select contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with coworkers to support effective execution of bridge and culvert construction projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in computer systems
  • Participate in on-call schedule for emergency response, ensuring operational coverage

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
