Description

This position is responsible for the daily production and operations of the Horizons' Soft Shades departments, all shifts.

Using Lean manufacturing principles, associate engagement and teaming, drives safety, quality, service and productivity.

Objectives
  • Ensure quality, safety and service are maintained within departments/areas.
  • Ensure department workloads are monitored and managed. Assist in prioritization of workloads to ensure customer service commitments are met.
  • Ensure appropriate resources (staff, materials, equipment) to meet production demands.
  • Provide technical expertise in departments/areas, including expertise and enforcement of internal controls and workflow processes.
  • Meet with Production and Inventory Control to plan department/area workloads.
  • Regularly interface with other functional areas such as engineering, customer service, quality, sales, etc. to ensure alignment in servicing internal and external customers.
  • Plan, execute and oversee Lean, Quality and Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Implement and execute Lean and cost control initiatives.
  • Identify and implement improvements in work processes, conditions and use of equipment to improve overall department performance.
  • Interact with engineering and product platform areas on new product and process development.
  • Review financial information/reports and direct cause/effect actions in operations.
  • Foster culture of collaborative leadership & engagement.
  • Directly manage workforce of up to 40 manufacturing associates.
  • Drive associate engagement through teaming, formal and informal People Matter Meetings, development and execution of VOA action plans and other activities.
  • Identify and provide opportunities for talent development, including oversight of cross-training activities.
  • Ensure alignment to facility goals and objectives through establishment and communication of clear, consistent expectations.
  • Identify and address performance gaps through continuous feedback exchange, coaching/counseling activities and consistent application of progressive discipline when appropriate.
  • Participate in facility performance management activities including establishment of line-of-sight goals, performance check-ins and completion of performance reviews.
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Minimum- 2-year/technical degree. Five or more years progressive manufacturing experience, including Lean manufacturing.
  • Preferred- Five to 10 years first-line supervision in custom consumer product manufacturing, preferably textiles.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Lean manufacturing processes
  • Ability to lead, coach, delegate and facilitate the work of others
  • Training and team building skills.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.
  • Problem solving skills
  • PC skills, including MS Office and various internal reporting systems.
  • Ability to manipulate data and formulate conclusions.

  • Clearly defines and utilizes processes in daily work
  • Knows SFW team structure, roles and responsibilities
  • Integrates process methodology into daily work; Lean, 6S, 8D, Q@S etc
  • Looks for innovative ways to streamline work processes across the division and involves stakeholders
  • Establishes forums to share best practices
  • Uses dept and company scorecard and other metrics
  • Measures own work to plan and reports out at a micro and macro level
