Job Description Summary

The Manager of Portfolio Management (Execution Focus) enables day-to-day portfolio execution by turning portfolio priorities, guidance, and governance decisions into accurate, decision-ready outputs. Reporting to the Senior Director, Portfolio Management, this role works closely with director-level portfolio leads across both in-house and Business Development portfolios and acts as the execution backbone of the portfolio function. The role is accountable for execution readiness, follow‑through, and efficiency—driving material productivity gains by replacing manual work with scalable, AI‑enabled processes (for example, using the Copilot interface and capabilities). The role is expected to proactively identify risks, data gaps, and decision blind spots, and to flag options to portfolio leadership. This is an individual contributor role with no direct people management responsibilities.

Position Location:

This position will be located at the Princeton, NJ US Headquarters site. Our Sandoz flexible hybrid working approach allows US office‑based employees to work up to 50% of their monthly workday remotely. This role will not have the ability to be located remotely. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available for this role now or in the future.

Major Accountabilities / Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Portfolio Governance & Execution Readiness (Enable Timely Decisions): Prepare governance‑ready materials for portfolio forums by building slides, validating data, and ensuring clear decision framing. Deliver complete, accurate materials on time with minimal rework.
  • Portfolio Forecasting & Change Control Support (Maintain Integrity): Maintain portfolio forecasts and scenarios across internal and BD assets by updating our internal pipeline system. Clearly summarize changes and implications to support timely governance decisions.
  • Business Development Portfolio Enablement (Support Inorganic Execution): Support BD‑led assets by coordinating inputs, maintaining trackers, and reflecting deal and development changes in portfolio forecasts and materials as opportunities progress.
  • Process, Tools & AI Enablement (Deliver Step-Change Efficiency): Build and improve templates, dashboards, automation, and AI‑enabled workflows on product evaluations that reduce manual effort, rework, and cycle time. Convert repetitive work into scalable, low‑touch processes.
  • Operating Rhythm Management (Keep the Portfolio Running): Manage portfolio timelines, data refreshes, and deliverables across the internal pipeline, BD funnel, and governance activities to ensure readiness ahead of decision points.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination (Get Work Done in a Matrix): Coordinate inputs across R&D, Regulatory, Commercial, Finance, Supply, and BD teams. Resolve data gaps or inconsistencies early to prevent downstream delays.
  • Execution Accountability & Follow-Through (Close the Loop): Track decisions, actions, owners, and timelines from portfolio forums and ensure updates are reflected consistently in materials, forecasts, and next steps.
  • Special Projects & Priority Analyses (Deliver on Demand): Execute priority analyses or execution‑focused portfolio initiatives as assigned, delivering clear, practical outputs with minimal oversight.
  • Risk Identification and Escalation (Protect Decision Quality): Proactively surface timeline, data integrity, or cross‑functional execution risks that could compromise portfolio readiness or decision quality.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Governance Readiness & Quality: Delivers complete, accurate, decision‑ready materials for portfolio governance forums, with clear framing, validated data, and zero rework.
  • Forecast Integrity & Responsiveness: Maintains high‑confidence, up‑to‑date portfolio forecasts that respond rapidly to new information, scenario changes, and leadership requests.
  • Execution Predictability: Ensures portfolio deliverables, analyses, and timelines are reliably met, reducing surprises and execution variability.
  • Process & Tool Impact: Improves portfolio execution outcomes through standardized processes, fit‑for‑purpose tools, and measurable productivity gains.
  • AI‑Driven Efficiency Gains: Replaces manual, repetitive work with AI‑enabled workflows to materially reduce cycle time and analyst effort.
  • Leadership Support: Extends Director and Executive Director effectiveness by ensuring execution readiness, proactive issue surfacing, and seamless follow‑through on decisions.
Key Capabilities Required:
  • Execution-First Orientation: Relentlessly focused on execution excellence—turning direction into accurate, on‑time outputs, not owning portfolio strategy or final investment decisions.
  • Project & Portfolio Discipline: Manages multiple priorities with rigor, structure, and strong follow‑through across complex, cross‑functional portfolios.
  • Data, Analytics & AI Fluency (Copilot, Salesforce.com, Power BI): Uses data, dashboards, and AI tools to drive insights, automate workflows, and improve decision speed and quality.
  • Executive-Ready Communication: Produces clear, concise, and decision‑oriented materials suitable for senior leadership without rework or translation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works seamlessly across R&D, BD, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Finance, and Commercial to ensure aligned and timely portfolio execution.
Job Dimensions:

Impact on the organization: Medium. This role materially improves execution quality, forecast reliability, governance efficiency, and operating leverage across the generic portfolio—enabling portfolio leadership to scale.
