KēSTA I.T. is seeking a Manager, Platform Engineering.
We\'re seeking an experienced Manager of Platform Engineering to lead a talented team responsible for building and scaling the infrastructure behind our innovative SaaS products. This leadership role involves overseeing platform engineers, SREs, database administrators (DBAs), and data specialists, while ensuring our infrastructure is reliable, secure, and optimized for growth. You\'ll have a direct impact on the foundation that powers mission-critical services, working closely with cross-functional teams to create a robust, scalable platform.
Note: This role is fully remote and available to candidates residing in eligible U.S. states.
Responsibilities
Your Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor a diverse team consisting of platform engineers, SREs, DBAs, and data engineers.
- Cultivate a high-performance team culture that values accountability, growth, and continuous learning.
- Focus on individual career development while fostering a unified approach to engineering practices across specialties.
Core Platform Architecture
- Design and implement core platform services that power critical applications and enable future SaaS initiatives.
- Establish scalable frameworks, libraries, and best practices that ensure security, performance, and system reliability.
- Provide technical direction for multi-tenant architecture, regional data considerations, and future-proof compliance measures.
Reliability & Operational Excellence
- Take ownership of uptime SLI/SLOs, incident management, and troubleshooting workflows, collaborating with engineering teams.
- Champion observability and monitoring strategies to reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR) and improve system reliability.
- Work with QA leadership to integrate platform-level testing and automated checks into the CI/CD pipeline.
Data Infrastructure & Scalability
- Lead initiatives that ensure scalable and highly available database systems, including management and optimization of data storage.
- Define data management practices, from replication and query optimization to cost-effective scaling for large datasets.
- Drive the growth of our data architecture to support tens of billions of data rows, enabling advanced analytics and reporting capabilities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Translate product and business requirements into actionable platform capabilities that speed up development cycles.
- Collaborate with product, security, and compliance teams to ensure solutions adhere to industry standards, such as SOC2, GDPR, and others.
- Partner with DevOps and finance teams to optimize infrastructure costs and scale the platform efficiently.
We\'re Looking for Candidates with:
Must-Have Experience
- At least 7 years in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, with 2+ years in a management or leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing teams with a mix of SREs, DBAs, and platform engineers.
- Hands-on experience scaling distributed systems to handle significant growth and ensuring their reliability over time.
Technical Expertise
- Strong familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably GCP) and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
- Proficient in modern backend technologies, such as Elixir, Go, Rust, or similar.
- In-depth knowledge of database systems (Postgres, ClickHouse, Elastic) and best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Comfortable with participating in system design reviews, architectural discussions, and conducting incident post-mortems.
Leadership & Communication Skills
- Excellent communicator capable of building trust and fostering collaboration across different teams and locations.
- Ability to balance rapid delivery with long-term infrastructure stability and resilience.
- A passion for developing and enabling engineers to achieve their best work through coaching, mentorship, and fostering a positive engineering culture.
