Job Overview

This Manager of Plant Facilities is responsible for the direct supervision of all engineering, security, and environmental services employees, and for the overall operation of plant management and building maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Establish operational procedures for activities such as managing disruptions caused by patients, visitors, and personnel; traffic control, guarding, patrolling physical property, escort services for visitors and personnel in high-risk areas; and investigating accidents and criminal acts.
  • Collaborate with managers to evaluate employee tasks to identify hazards, conditions, and situations that could lead to violence.
  • Oversee fiscal planning and activities of the department, including policy formulation with management and determining program needs aligned with hospital activities.
  • Develop operating plans including personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies; make recommendations for midyear needs as appropriate.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts and supplies to ensure operational readiness of hospital building systems and equipment, respecting limitations.
  • Supervise personnel in the Maintenance and Security departments, including hiring, training, assigning work, performance appraisal, and addressing issues, in accordance with organizational policies and laws.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of fire alarm systems following National Fire Prevention Association standards.
  • Develop policies and procedures related to fire safety and overall safety protocols.
  • Manage departmental budget, including planning, tracking expenses, addressing variances, and implementing cost containment measures.
  • Assist in preparing and operating within the department/unit budget, including annual cost analysis.
  • Keep accurate records of expenditures and justify variances monthly.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies on employee injury, safety, and adherence to National Safety Goals.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintain operational procedures for the department, recommending updates as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years experience in building maintenance, trades, or construction; 3+ years in facilities management is strongly preferred.
