As the Manager-Outside Plant Construction Mechanic, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair operations for a large fleet of construction vehicles and equipment. This involves developing efficient workflows, managing parts inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. You will be coordinating with internal leadership to optimize asset readiness and minimize downtime. Additionally, you will be supervising and mentoring mechanic staff, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.






Responsibilities




Leadership

    Lead and support Construction Mechanics in key internal markets, ensuring training, safety, and morale.
  • Enforce compliance with safety and environmental protection standards.
  • Advise associates and leadership on asset readiness and maintenance priorities.

Maintenance Procedures

  • Oversee, train, and mentor on preventative maintenance procedures and best practices.
  • Develop and implement scheduled service maintenance procedures and systems.
  • Manage scheduled service programs for vehicles and equipment and ensure accurate recording of maintenance data.
  • Coordinate maintenance and logistics with construction leadership.
  • Manage procurement, inventory, and cost tracking for parts and repairs.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance budgets for cost-effectiveness.

Vendor Collaboration

  • Work with equipment manufacturers and vendors for upgrades and replacements
  • Develop manufacturer specific training for mechanical staff.
  • Coordinate efforts with vendors to ensure assets that cannot be fixed internally are completed in a timely manner.





Qualifications




Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in a supervisory role or equivalent leadership experience.
  • 3+ years' experience troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing heavy equipment.
  • 3+ years' experience in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Other Qualifications

  • A current CDL is preferred at hire, but TDS will train and certify eligible associates through its in-house CDL certification program after hire.
  • Certification in Diesel and Gasoline engine repair preferred
  • Computer experience including Excel and Word as well as use of diagnostic software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • May require occasional travel.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • May be required to work various/swing shift as a business need dictates.
