Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an Outpatient CDI Manager to lead strategy, people, and processes behind revenue-focused documentation for outpatient encounters.

You will manage a CDI team, collaborate with physicians and clinical leaders, and serve as the expert on ICD-10, coding standards, HCC/Risk Adjustment, and compliance. This role drives enterprise-wide initiatives and system design while elevating care quality and financial performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Healthcare Administration or related medical-focused field; RN/BSN preferred
  • Five years of clinical operations or coding/CDI experience related to revenue coding and reimbursement
  • Strong project management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to teach complex technical concepts to physicians and leaders
  • Ability to lead change and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS conventions and regulations
  • Experience with privacy and compliance regulations in medical records
  • Demonstrates experience in all areas of medical record functions and collaboration with clinical leadership

As the Outpatient Clinical Documentation (CDI) Manager, you’ll lead the strategy, people, and processes behind one of the most critical functions in modern healthcare: ensuring documentation tells the full, accurate story of every patient encounter.


You’ll manage and inspire a skilled CDI team, collaborate directly with physicians and clinical leaders, and serve as the organization’s expert on documentation standards, coding compliance, HCC/Risk Adjustment, and revenue integrity. Your leadership will influence enterprise-wide initiatives, shape system design, and drive consistent, high-quality documentation across all Henry Ford Health facilities.

Education/Experience Required


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration. A Bachelor's Degree in Art or Science with a medical focus would also be acceptable. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

  • Five (5) years clinical operations experience as evidenced by Acute or Ambulatory Nursing and/or Coding and CDI experience directly related to revenue coding and reimbursement for hospital or physician services.

  • Significant project management experience and outstanding analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to teach complex technical/analytical concepts to physicians, system leadership, management and staff.

  • Analytical ability necessary to conduct basic research, analyze and interpret data, evaluate processes and propose improvements.

  • Ability to manage, coordinate, and lead simultaneously.

  • Ability to estimate time frames and meet projected deadlines.

  • Ability to understand and lead change.

  • Ability to develop strong working and collaborative relationships with physician leaders in clinical and academic settings.

  • Demonstrates clinical and/or coding competence.

  • Demonstrate experience in all areas of medical record functions, including privacy & compliance regulations.

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS conventions, rules and regulations.


Certifications/Licensures Required


  • Registered Nurse (RN or BSN) and/or Coding Certification required. Coding Certification may be CPC, CCS, RHIT, and RHIA.
