A municipal engineering authority in the City of Rochester is seeking a Manager of Structures to oversee large-scale structural projects. The role requires strong leadership and engineering expertise, with preferences for city residency. A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and a Professional Engineer's license are essential. This position involves budget management, planning projects, and collaborating effectively across divisions to enhance municipal engineering operations.
This is a high level management and professional engineering position involving responsibility for managing large scale structural related municipal projects and initiatives in parallel with coordinating, planning, and directing select divisions within of the City’s Bureau of Architecture and Engineering. The Manager of Structures works with the City Engineer to manage and direct multi-disciplined professional/technical employees within the Bureau and to make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important and lasting impact on the community, public realm and various engineering and architectural activities. The work is performed under the general direction of the City Engineer. City living is preferred, but not required for this position.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. Qualifications
Master's degree in Civil, and/or Structural AND four (4) years’ experience managing structural engineering projects, three (3) years of which were in a supervisory capacity;
OR
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, and/or Transportation Engineering AND six (6) years of experience managing structural engineering projects, three (3) years of which were in a supervisory capacity;
