Job summary

NY Creates is seeking a Manager of Photonics Development to lead photonics, HI tech, and MPW wafer services initiatives in Albany, NY. You will drive process development, device modeling, design enablement, and collaboration with the EPDA group to deliver robust PMs and PDKs for external customers.

Job Description:

Position Summary, Manager of Photonics Development

This posting is to hire an experienced technologist working with a diverse suite of Silicon Photonics and Heterogeneous Integration (HI) technology offerings.This will involve the development of the following: novel materials, process/material optimization, optical / electro-optical components, (modeling, design, fabrication and test), testing methodologies and parameter extraction. Mature components will be made available to designers through process design kits (PDKs) by working closely with electronic photonic design automation (EPDA) group at NY Creates / AIM Photonics.

While much of this position's effort will revolve around managing part of the AIM Photonics engineering team, this position is heavily customer-facing. This role requires interacting with current and prospective customers and collaborators interested in multi-project wafer (MPW) or dedicated wafer fabrication services.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with the other engineering managers responsible for design enablement, 3D integration, and/or packaging.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical leadership for development activities within the organization.
• Coordinating with vendors such as the mask house, dicing/packaging, and any outsourced processes
• Interacting with customers or development partners to understand the specific requirements of a project and to update them on challenges, risks, and progress
• Development and maturation of new process technologies to meet the needs of external constituencies and/or internal technical road maps
• Writing reports, papers, and/or patents as appropriate
• Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications, Manager of Photonics Development

• M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Engineering and/or AND 8+ years relevant professional industry experience.

OR

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Engineering and/or Science discipline AND 5+ years relevant professional industry experience.
• The successful individual must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure, in a fast-paced environment, and be able to execute a variety of tasks on short notice is a must.
• Candidate must exhibit the ability to work independently and as a part of a multifaceted team, as required. The needs of the organization can change quickly and therefore the person hired for this position should be flexible and able to learn new topics quickly.

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.

Preferred Qualifications, Manager of Photonics Development

• Process development experience in multiple sectors (LTH, RIE, INS, MTL, CMP, PLT, WET, RTP, ION, EPI)
• CMOS Process Integration experience; sustaining and/or developing processes in a 300mm wafer fabrication facility.
• Process Integration experience non-CMOS technologies (MEMS, sensors, magnetics, photonics, etc)
• Experience with 2.5D/3D integration and/or heterogeneous integration
• Background in modeling or device physics of photonic devices, specifically silicon or III-V photonics
• Familiarity with IC layout and verification tools (KLayout, Cadence, Mentor Graphics, Synopsys)
• Demonstrated hands-on problem solver.
