Job Overview
This is a general posting for inpatient RN positions in the OR at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Once you apply, a Talent Acquisition Specialist will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your areas of interest and preferred hours. - Responsible for supervising professional and ancillary staff in the delivery of nursing care
- Oversees operations of an assigned nursing unit
- Assignments come with general expectations and flexibility in procedures
- Employees providing direct care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible clinical and supervisory nursing experience
- Current RN license in good standing in the state of Michigan
- BLS certification
- Basic computer proficiency for department record-keeping
- Ability to analyze data from clinical systems
- Effective communicator with patients, staff, and physicians
- Able to work in mentally and physically demanding conditions, including standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, MBA, or Master of Health Administration
- Additional education/experience based on department needs
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Policy
- Participate in nursing and organizational policy formulation
- Develop and administer procedures to implement policies
- Oversee preparation and accuracy of reports and records
- Facilitate staff participation in shared governance and policy decisions
- Accept accountability for patient services and care outcomes
Clinical Oversight
- Evaluate care quality and appropriateness
- Support culturally competent patient care
- Review care plans and initiate adjustments as needed
- Ensure staff adhere to documentation and care standards
- Supervise and guide staff performance and clinical duties
- Coordinate nursing with other healthcare disciplines
- Maintain strong working relationships with physicians and healthcare team members
- Advocate for patient and family needs
Staff Management
- Lead recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and evaluation of staff
- Promote staff development and retention
- Ensure proper credentialing, training, and ongoing education
- Manage staff scheduling and assignments based on patient care needs
- Monitor and evaluate performance using observations, communication, and chart reviews
Budgeting & Planning
- Participate in unit goal setting and long-term planning
- Assist in developing and managing the department budget
- Ensure efficient and cost-effective operation of the unit
Education & Development
- Promote educational experiences for nursing students and staff
- Identify learning needs and facilitate staff participation in programs
- Remain current in clinical practices and support peer review initiatives
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe work environment per hospital policies and regulations
- Ensure compliance with standards from accrediting and regulatory bodies
- Oversee inventory and proper use of equipment and supplies
- Ensure secure handling of controlled medications
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Surgery Department – Bronson LakeView Hospital
- Develop policies and educational curricula related to infection prevention
- Manage infection surveillance and analyze system-wide data
- Serve as liaison and resource for staff on infection prevention
- Advise on construction and environmental safety standards
- Ensure compliance with the Exposure Control Plan and infection prevention guidelines
Bronson LakeView & Bronson South Haven Hospitals
- Responsible for completing the annual Workday CBL “Swing Beds”
- Understand documentation and care differences for swing bed patients vs. inpatient/observation
Schedule
