Job description

Manager, Network Engineering

We have a great opportunity for a Manager, Network Engineering. The Manager will lead the network infrastructure strategy, design, and operations, overseeing a team of network engineers and managing advanced networking technologies such as Wi-Fi, BGP, global WAN, SD-WAN, and cloud connectivity (Azure/AWS). The role requires deep technical expertise in routing protocols, traffic prioritization (QoS), and on-premises-to-cloud connectivity, along with proven leadership skills to manage distributed teams. The Manager will drive network innovation, optimize performance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business-critical applications.

This position is 100% Remote but can transition to hybrid or onsite in the future. Candidates must be local to Boston, MA.

Responsibilities:
  1. Manage global WAN operations ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
  2. Lead deployment and optimization of SD-WAN solutions.
  3. Oversee design, implementation, and maintenance of networks using protocols like BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
  4. Design and manage on-premises-to-cloud connectivity, including hybrid architectures.
  5. Set up cloud networking environments in Azure and AWS, including VPCs, VPNs, and Direct Connect/ExpressRoute.
  6. Ensure seamless integration of cloud services with enterprise networks.
  7. Implement QoS policies for traffic prioritization.
  8. Monitor and troubleshoot network issues.
  9. Manage a distributed team of network engineers, fostering collaboration and accountability.
  10. Coordinate resources and project assignments.
  11. Mentor team members and conduct performance reviews.
  12. Develop a network engineering roadmap aligned with business goals.
  13. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption.
  14. Ensure network security, uptime, and compliance with standards.
  15. Establish monitoring tools, high availability configurations, and disaster recovery plans.
  16. Maintain detailed network documentation.
  17. Partner with IT leadership, application teams, and vendors.
  18. Act as escalation point for complex issues.
  19. Lead projects such as upgrades, migrations, and SD-WAN rollouts.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, AWS, Azure).
  • Minimum 7 years in network engineering, with 4-6 years in leadership.
  • Cloud networking experience is mandatory.
  • Extensive experience with routing protocols and Wi-Fi design.
  • Experience managing global WAN and SD-WAN deployments.
  • Hands-on cloud connectivity setup in Azure/AWS.
  • Proven success managing remote teams.
  • Knowledge of automation tools (Ansible, Python).
  • Understanding of zero-trust models and security frameworks.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Knowledge of routing/switching technologies and security tools.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
