Job summary

Penguin Random House's Sales division seeks a National Account Manager to sell frontlist and backlist titles from Penguin imprints to Barnes & Noble. This highly visible role works with the nation's largest book retailer and an award-winning author roster.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of sales experience, excellent communication, and strong analytical skills. This hybrid position requires regular in-person and virtual meetings, including NYC visits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of sales experience, including direct selling to accounts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with public speaking preferred
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work well under pressure, follow up as needed, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Willingness to regularly visit Barnes & Noble’s home office in NYC with minimal notice

Responsibilities

  • Maximizing sales growth within the established account base by acquiring and renewing orders.
  • Preparing and presenting all relevant titles and special promotions to account.
  • Attending and participating in internal meetings including launch, sales, and marketing meetings.
  • Working closely with each imprint on title development and strategy.
  • Meeting with B&N on a regular basis to sell new lists and backlist, gather feedback on sell-through, obtain account news, highlight author event opportunities, and acquire other industry-related information.
  • Communicating regularly with sales management and Publishing regarding account activities, including reorders, account strategy, etc.

Job Description

The Penguin Random House Sales division has an exciting opportunity available with the adult retail team!

We are seeking a National Account Manager to sell frontlist and backlist titles from Penguin Publishing Group imprints to Barnes & Noble. The National Account Manager is a highly visible role, working with both one of the nation’s largest book retailers and with an incredible roster of bestselling and award-winning Penguin authors.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Maximizing sales growth within the established account base by acquiring and renewing orders.

  • Ability to regularly visit Barnes & Noble’s home office and meet with B&N colleagues in NYC with minimal notice
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Prior publishing experience is preferred
  • Experience working with Barnes & Noble is a plus
Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $77,500 - $87,500. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
