Job summary

The George W. Bush Presidential Museum seeks a Manager of Museum Education to lead the development of innovative educational programs for K-12 educators and align resources with academic standards.

Reporting to the Director, you will drive teacher engagement, curriculum development, and partnerships with schools and museums. The role combines program design, budget oversight, and strategic planning to sustain education initiatives and expand the Center’s influence in civics and American history

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education, History, Curriculum Design, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience designing professional development and instructional content for K-12 teachers, with a focus on arts integration.
• Knowledge of curriculum standards, interdisciplinary teaching strategies, and professional learning design.
• Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Teacher Program Development: Oversee the creation and implementation of education-focused projects, teacher professional development opportunities, curriculum initiatives, events, presentations, and professional learning communities that foster meaningful connections between educators and the museum’s collections and exhibitions and the broader Bush Center.
• Curriculum Resource Creation: Develop, write, and package high-quality, standards-based resources that are practical, engaging, adaptable, and TEKS aligned for classroom use.
• Volunteer Training Resources: Develop, write, and package high-quality, resources that are practical, engaging, and adaptable for use in training new and existing museum volunteers.
• Collaborative Partnerships: Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure resources are aligned with exhibitions, collections, and gallery experiences.
• School Engagement: Facilitate field trips, customize teacher resources, deliver professional development tailored to partner needs, and ensure programs reflect best practices in civics and history education.

The museum offers a moving exhibit on September 11, 2001, a replica Oval Office, and an interactive experience in presidential decision-making. Essential Responsibilities

The Manager, Museum Education spearheads the development of creative and integrated educational programs and curriculum resources for K-12 educators, empowering teachers to connect American history and civics with both classroom and museum experiences. Reporting to the Director of the Bush Museum, this position leads the creation of tools and strategies that motivate educators, encourage innovation, and align with academic standards to achieve impactful learning outcomes.

Additionally, the Manager applies expertise in business strategy, project oversight, and budgeting to build sustainable models that advance both educational excellence and institutional growth. By promoting American ideals embodied in the Bush Museum, the Manager expands the museum’s influence, establishes the Bush Museum as a leader in history- and civics-focused education, and ensures teachers are prepared to inspire future generations.

Specific responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

• Instructional Support: Provide coaching, facilitation, and modeling to help teachers strengthen history and civics integration and promote student-centered learning.
• Strategic Planning & Sustainability: Design long-term strategies and sustainable business models for teacher programs that support organizational objectives and revenue growth.
• Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with teachers, schools, and partners to drive key performance indicators such as museum attendance, teacher participation, and student engagement.
• Project & Budget Oversight: Manage multiple projects and budgets to ensure efficient operations, timely completion, and measurable outcomes.
• Program Evaluation: Establish, monitor, and analyze metrics to evaluate program effectiveness and guide ongoing improvements.
• Digital Initiatives: Collaborate with the Curator, Exhibitions and Collections to lead digital projects that incorporate emerging technologies and innovative teaching methods to enhance teacher and student engagement.
• Research Collaboration: Work with researchers and evaluators to support robust studies, generate meaningful insights, and connect findings to student outcomes.
• Course Design & Facilitation: Create and deliver in-person, virtual, and hybrid courses for teachers that promote civics and history-integrated teaching, reflective practice, and innovative instructional approaches.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The qualified candidate will possess (a/an):

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education, History, Curriculum Design, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience designing professional development and instructional content for K-12 teachers, with a focus on arts integration.
• A love of, and enthusiasm for, history and education.
• Knowledge of curriculum standards, interdisciplinary teaching strategies, and professional learning design.
• Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite; Shopify experience preferred.
