Job summary

Catalent's Kansas City facility is seeking a Manager, Molecular & Cellular Biology to lead sub-teams of scientists, ensure cGMP compliance, and oversee analytical activities for Biopharma product development in a 100% onsite Kansas City setting.

You will manage projects, mentor staff, and drive data integrity while collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams to advance large molecule and biologics programs.

Position Summary

We have an opportunity for a Manager, Molecular & Cellular Biology to join our team. In this role, you will lead sub-teams of scientists and group leaders, serving as a technical expert and ensuring compliance with cGMP standards. You will manage analytical activities for Biopharma product development, support client interactions, and oversee HR responsibilities. This position offers the chance to work on advanced technologies and contribute to the success of large molecule and biologics programs.

Location: Kansas City, MO

The role:

• Serve as a technical expert supporting Large Molecule/Biologics programs, including mammalian cell culture, sterile technique, cell-based assays, ELISA-based potency and quantitative assays, and molecular biology techniques such as qPCR and PCR.
• Provide expertise in advanced analytical technologies, including flow cytometry, kinetic binding assessment (BLI/SPR), and other scientific platforms required to support client and business objectives.
• Lead and oversee method development, feasibility assessments, transfers, verifications, qualifications, validations, stability studies, and ad hoc testing within the Molecular and Cellular Biology laboratory.
• Plan, prioritize, and manage analytical workflows to ensure projects are executed in accordance with client contracts, technical agreements, quality standards, and business goals.
• Serve as a Technical Lead or backup Technical Lead, providing scientific leadership, technical direction, and project oversight for Molecular and Cellular Biology programs.
• Ensure laboratory compliance by managing computer system validation activities, maintaining qualified instrument and equipment status, and enforcing cGMP requirements.
• Drive data integrity and quality by reviewing analytical results, verifying peer data, and ensuring adherence to SOPs, client requirements, GMP standards, and safety regulations.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and revenue forecasting while supporting proposal development, project costing, and business growth initiatives.
• Lead, develop, and mentor laboratory personnel through performance management, training coordination, employee engagement, succession planning, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
• Champion a culture of quality, safety, ethics, and innovation by promoting cross-functional collaboration, implementing new technologies, supporting business development activities, and enhancing biopharmaceutical service offerings.
• Other duties as assigned

The candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in department‑specific analytical, molecular, and cellular biology techniques.
• Minimum of 2 years of people management or laboratory leadership experience, including team supervision, performance management, and staff development.
• Applies knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts applicable to a wide range of work in a discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry) and broad knowledge of principles and concepts in other disciplines.
• In-depth knowledge in instrumentation, theory, data interpretation and applications in at least one technical area. Can assess new technologies and their impact on Catalent offerings
• Experienced in most aspects of drug development and lifecycle support, and able to develop useful strategies and tactics to meet regulatory milestones
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with internal and external customers, colleagues, and supervisor.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences
• Able to lead difficult discussions with customers and drive the to an acceptable resolution
• Physical requirements include frequent standing, sitting, and reaching; constant walking; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs., pushing up to 35 lbs., and pulling up to 35 lbs.; and rare kneeling. Work is performed in an environment with occasional exposure to extreme cold, noise, and vibration; frequent exposure to hazards; and rare exposure to extreme heat, humidity, wet conditions, and temperature changes.
• Demonstrable leadership experience at Catalent (including but not limited to participation in Catalent‑sponsored leadership programs such as NGGL, GOLD, LEAD Now, GM Excellence, and GROW) may be considered in place of external experience.
