Job Summary

The primary purpose of this role is the accurate and timely coordination, monitoring, and maintenance of the credentialing (appointment and reappointment) and privileging processes. The Credentialing Medical Staff Manager oversees provider onboarding, verifies licenses, and manages compliance with state and federal regulations. This ensures that all medical staff members and allied health professionals comply with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and the hospital's Medical Staff Bylaws.

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership and operational oversight of the Medical Staff Office and its credentialing and privileging functions.
  • Establishes, implements, and monitors processes to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant completion of initial appointments, reappointments, and privileging activities.
  • Oversees the credentialing and privileging activities performed by Medical Staff Office staff and ensures appropriate follow‑up and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Interprets and applies Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, accreditation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements to credentialing and privileging processes.
  • Reviews complex, sensitive, or escalated credentialing and privileging issues and determines appropriate action or recommends action to medical staff or hospital leadership.
  • Monitors the overall status of provider credentialing, reappointment, and privileging activities and identifies potential compliance risks, delays, or deficiencies.
  • Provides administrative support and guidance to Medical Staff leadership and credentialing‑related committees, including preparation of agendas, reports, and materials for review.
  • Collaborates with medical staff leaders, hospital departments, and external organizations regarding credentialing, privileging, and medical staff matters.
  • Maintains oversight of the credentialing and privileging database and ensures the integrity, security, and accessibility of medical staff records.
  • Ensures appropriate systems are in place for monitoring expiring licenses, certifications, privileges, and other time‑limited documentation.
  • Provides direction, coaching, and workload prioritization for Medical Staff Office staff.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve Medical Staff Office processes, efficiency, compliance, and service to medical staff and hospital departments.
  • Maintains confidentiality of medical staff and provider information and exercises appropriate professional discretion when handling sensitive matters.
  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing goals and objectives in a manner that helps others achieve their goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years working in a medical staff services or provider credentialing environment.
  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) through NAMSS.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and coaching skills. Ability to work independently and with professional discretion. Experience confidentially handling sensitive information. Ability to independently lead, research and manage multiple projects and carry out complex or sensitive assignments in a timely manner. Deep knowledge of medical terminology, credentialing software, and state/federal healthcare laws.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements : Walk, stand, bend, kneel or sit, as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periods of time throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder, below the waist or lifting up to 25 pounds, as needed.
