Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Product Value Stream Leader to manage manufacturing operations on the 2nd shift in San Diego. You will lead safety, quality, delivery, employee and cost performance across assigned programs and drive continuous improvement across the value stream.

You will collaborate with Operations, Engineering and Business Support Functions to hit site objectives, develop talent, and ensure equipment maintenance and capability. A competitive salary and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; 7 years with a Master's; 4 years with a PhD; and an additional 4 years may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • First Line Manager experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership experience, demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to solve problems and drive continuous improvements.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and project planning tools.

Northrop Grumman Mission Enabling Products (MEP) Business Unit designs, manufactures and operates small and medium-class spacecraft for communications, imaging, scientific, exploration and national security space applications. MEP is the leading supplier of space components that power and enable satellites of all classes, provides technical engineering services to government agencies and laboratories, and is developing exciting new satellite servicing and advanced space flight technologies.

Our San Diego, CA location is seeking a Product Value Stream Leader - Manager Manufacturing Operations 2 to join our 2nd shift (1:00 pm - 10:30 pm) team.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Accountability for meeting or exceeding the Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee and Cost expectations of internal and external customers across assigned programs. Support and drive continuous improvements to support year-over-year SQDEC goals.
  • Collaboration and coordination with Operations, Engineering, and Business Support Functions to achieve product and site business goals
  • Talent development through the performance management process, including individual and team goal setting, coaching and personnel development, and maintain department training requirements and deploy resources according to skill sets
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are maintained in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules for assigned areas
  • Provide inputs into customer proposals by providing basis of estimates for labor, risks, and schedule durations.
  • Design and execution of staffing strategies to meet/balance customer needs and business objectives.

  • Own, execute and continuously improve Daily Management (Gemba, Obeya, Stand-Ups, etc.) within assigned Product Value Stream(s)
  • Ensure financial operating integrity by supporting financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ownership and accountability for effective hand-offs through all functional and process center areas
  • Maintain awareness and involvement in contract milestones that directly relate to billings
  • Support customer proposals by providing basis of estimates for labor and schedule duration
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are maintained in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules for each assigned area
  • Communicate/escalate key issues related to safety/security, quality, delivery, employee, cost etc. upward to site leadership and downward into the organization
Talent Management
  • Proactively strengthen the Product Value Stream team through the performance management process (individual and group goal setting, coaching and personnel development). Provide inputs to performance of Process Center and Functional Leaders.
  • Establish and maintain training requirements and deploy resources accordingly.
  • Ensure succession plans are in place and be proactive in mentoring key talent to assume increased responsibilities.
Compliance
  • Advocate a safe, secure and ethical working environment that maintains compliance with federal, state and local government regulations.
  • Utilize and improve Northrop Grumman Corporation Quality Management System to achieve compliance and maintain certifications for AS9100 and NADCAP.

  • Several Manufacturing Technicians
  • Dotted-line responsibilities for all product value stream focused support functions (ME, QE, SCM)
Basic Qualifications
  • 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; 7 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 4 years of relevant experience with a PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • First Line Manager experience in aerospace composite fabrication shop.
  • Leadership experience, demonstrating an ability to lead, build and manage effective cross-functional teams in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Ability to solve problems and drive continuous improvements
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, which may include weekends
  • Knowledge and experience to develop and execute process standards focused on product area value streams and risk management identification and mitigation
  • Ability to obtain security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $133,100.00 - $199,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
