Manager Maintenance Utilities – Night Shift
Amgen, one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, is investing $550 million to build a new multi‑product drug substance biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina. The plant will combine traditional batch and single‑use technologies under a "FleX Batch" approach and integrate digitalization and sustainability initiatives to help Amgen achieve carbon neutrality by 2027.
What You Will Do
This vital role provides technical and administrative leadership to a diverse group of utility personnel, including operators, electricians, and HVAC technicians. The position has a base schedule of 3 pm – 11 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Support the start‑up of all site utility systems and transfer ownership to the F&E utilities team.
- Develop and implement a long‑term strategy for continuous plant and clean utility operations, including system setups in Maximo.
- Develop and implement goals and budgets for all utility services and equipment, including site utility accounts and maintenance programs.
- Ensure utility operations and maintenance are aligned with cGMP, safety requirements, and local/global regulations.
- Institute supporting organization and business structures, including innovation and talent development.
- Ensure procedures for cGMP and daily activities are in place and followed.
- Ensure safety of all personnel during construction and start‑up operations, providing 24/7 coverage across multiple shifts.
Post‑Construction completion and continued operations:
- Lead Amgen NC F&E utility staff and service providers supporting continuous clean and plant utility operations.
- Provide support outside normal working hours to maintain continuous and compliant utility operations.
- Manage and monitor a robust maintenance program consisting of preventive, predictive, and corrective activities to improve safety, reliability, equipment efficiency, and product quality.
- Ensure staff are trained and follow safety and GMP standards.
- Improve staff productivity and efficient use of resources.
- Analyze engineering, construction, and maintenance cost forecasts against scope.
- Oversee and execute facilities/utilities/maintenance initiatives and small projects, providing expertise for capital project execution.
- Work cross‑functionally with Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing.
- Maintain and improve plant capability and equipment reliability with engineering leadership.
- Identify improvement opportunities, conduct analyses, recommend solutions, and lead or support implementation.
- Develop key performance indicators and ensure all targets are met on time and on budget.
- Support network‑wide improvement in plant maintenance and operation.
- Provide leadership and guidance to organizational resources.

What We Expect Of You
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma / GED and 10 years of manufacturing equipment maintenance experience
- Associate’s degree and 8 years of manufacturing equipment maintenance experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of manufacturing equipment maintenance experience
- Master’s degree and 2 years of manufacturing equipment maintenance experience
- Doctorate degree
AND
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience directly managing people and/or leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leading teams, projects, or programs.
- 4+ years in engineering or utility operations within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or a regulated environment, or military experience.
- 3+ years ensuring compliance in a highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and facilitation skills in a collaborative team environment.
- Analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex problems using multiple data sources.
- Ability to lead multiple tasks and set priorities effectively.
- Goal‑setting and continuous improvement experience, monitoring key metrics.
- Extensive knowledge of electro‑mechanical, fluid, and gas equipment systems.
- Solid understanding of maintenance management, utilities operations programs, and CMMS.
- Skill in analyzing and improving facilities‑related quality systems.
