Essential Job Responsibilities:
The night-shift Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment operated by the company. This may include equipment owned or leased by the company and/or equipment owned or leased by third parties. The manager develops and directs the maintenance programs for that equipment and the technicians that accomplish the necessary repairs and preventive maintenance of that equipment. The maintenance manager must become familiar with all facets of the equipment under his supervision. His primary objective is to keep equipment under his supervision available to operations to accomplish the business objectives of the company. In the process of meeting the primary objective, it is his responsibility to do so at the least cost to the company and yet remain within the safety objectives and regulatory requirements of operating the equipment.
* Design and assume responsibility for all maintenance of equipment under his supervision.
* Hire, direct and supervise all maintenance personnel.
* Work with all departments to reach operational objectives.
* Provide input to the company regarding specifications of the operational equipment.
* Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives.
* Evaluate and control all maintenance costs.
* Evaluate maintenance programs to ensure they are accomplishing the intended objectives.
* Provide training of maintenance personnel to improve performance and skills.
* Stress workplace safety and training and participation in safety programs.
* Communicate company policies to all maintenance personnel.
* Participate in the acquisition of new or replacement equipment and disposition of used equipment.
* Be familiar with computer control, management, and diagnostic programs that are used on the equipment under your supervision.
* Constantly evaluate new technology as it is applied to equipment utilized by the company.
* All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Two (2) year AA degree or equivalent experience working in maintenance and management.
* 15 years' experience in a related industry.
* 7-10 years managing related union labor.
* Journeyman's License as a Millwright preferred.
* Valid CPR certificate required.
* Must have valid DL.
* Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations.
* Proven leadership skills.
* Experience with computerized operating systems.
* Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
* Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired.
* Knowledge of local unions dispatching rules.
* Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.

Work Environment:
* Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
* Exposure to computer screens.
* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
