Job Description
The Legal Recruiting and Associate Relations Manager (“Manager”) is responsible for the overall administration of the department and manages the legal recruiting (lateral attorneys, judicial clerks, and summer associates) and associate relations functions in the Washington, DC office. The Manager will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating associate training, professional development, and event planning for the DC Office. The Manager will prepare, administer, and track the recruiting budget and recruiting related expenses.
Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential functions:
- Collaborate with Managing Partners, Practice Group Leaders, and DC Recruitment Partners, to analyze hiring needs, coordinate, and manage lateral attorney, judicial law clerk, and summer associate hiring. This will include: screening of candidates, scheduling of candidate interviews, and liaising with practice group leaders regarding interview feedback and offer decisions.
- Coordinate conflict clearance and background check process for summer associates and lateral attorneys.
- Serve as liaison to search firms engaged to support the DC office in meeting hiring needs.
- Manage summer associate recruiting process and all aspects of the summer associate program, including communication with summer associates, event planning, mentor assignments, assignment coordinators, and training.
- Maintain regular correspondence with the Legal Recruiting Departments at Law Firms; work directly with career services offices at law schools to conduct presentations for law students; and suggest law student group sponsorship opportunities to DC Recruitment Partners.
- Work collaboratively with DC Recruitment Partners, DC Director of Administration, and DC Human Resources Manager to handle personnel issues and crisis control regarding summer associates.
- Assist with the development, implementation, updates, and management of hiring policies and procedures with the DC Recruitment Partners and Firm-wide Recruiting Department.
- Produce monthly, year-end, and ad hoc office recruiting reports.
- Oversee production of DC office external-facing recruitment materials and internal records, statistics, and reports.
- Work with US recruiting team and preferred vendors regarding ordering branded swag for on-campus giveaways, as well as lateral attorney and summer associate gifts.
- Oversee the attorney recruitment database (viRecruit) to ensure candidate tracking and record keeping.
- Initiate revisions to the Firm’s careers webpage to reflect any changes to the DC office’s recruiting initiatives.
- Support inclusive hiring and work with the Chair of the Inclusion Committee.
- Maintain an open line of communication with NY Senior Director of Legal Recruiting.
- Work with recruitment managers and staff in other offices to develop and promote Firm-wide recruiting initiatives.
- Maintain membership with the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) and WALRAA to remain current on trends in the legal industry and recruitment.
- Prepare, update, and track the DC recruiting budget. Review and approve invoices related to recruiting and the Firm’s mentoring program. Review budget and variance reports on a monthly basis to determine compliance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 5+ years in legal or campus recruitment for a professional services or Big Law firm.
- Ability to prioritize, juggle multiple responsibilities, and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Must be detail oriented with ability to multi-task.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
- Ability to create and effectively monitor a budget.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and be a team player.
- Candidate must be self-motivated, energetic, flexible, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of legal recruiting software a plus
- Some travel is required.
- Requires frequent interaction with attorneys, support staff, law school placement offices, search firms and Weil’s US offices.
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Estimated salary range is $145,000- $160,000.Compensation decisions within the range are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case including but not limited tothe individual's skills, experience, and qualifications.
