Job description

Manager, Learning Experience Design Capital One’s Enterprise Learning & Development team is seeking a forward-thinking and dynamic Learning Experience Design Manager to serve as a visionary architect and empowering people leader. The team brings together human-centered design principles and modern instructional design practices to create high-impact, transformative learning experiences for associates across Capital One. In this role, you will lead a team of Learning Experience Designers dedicated to building comprehensive learning ecosystems that support our product management, technical, data and specialized line-of-business teams, ensuring they are equipped to navigate an evolving and complex business landscape. As an empowering people leader, you will inspire a team of designers to translate complex business requirements into intuitive, engaging and measurable learning content. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of learning initiatives, partnering closely with strategic advisors to bridge line-of-business goals with high-impact instructional design strategy. By blending adult learning theory with exemplary leadership, you will mentor your team in building customer-grade journeys—including eLearnings, instructor‑led training (ILT), workbooks and digital platforms that cultivate essential capabilities. In doing so, you will focus on leading a future‑ready design workforce with the infusion of artificial intelligence tools into workflows to maximize efficiency, creativity and delivery at scale. Beyond shaping individual learning products and programs, you drive impact by intentionally developing the skills of your direct reports and setting the standard for learning design excellence. This role requires the ability to use a product mindset to iterate and improve learning based on data, treating every curriculum as an evolving product driven by user insights and measurable business outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate is...
  • A thoughtful and experienced people leader: You include, empower and inspire a team of Learning Experience Designers. You use your vast knowledge of adult learning theory and design best practices to guide and mentor your direct reports to deliver impactful end-to-end learning journeys. You excel at leading a future‑ready design workforce, intentionally fostering capabilities around the infusion of artificial intelligence tools into creative and operational workflows.
  • A strategic portfolio manager: You own the intake and prioritization of learning design initiatives across varied product, tech and enterprise portfolios. You work closely with line‑of‑business strategic advisors and program leads to align your team's efforts to areas of greatest leverage and business impact, creating clear project roadmaps that provide line of sight to partners.
  • A complex capability champion: You possess the agility to translate dense product, technical and specialized business concepts into intuitive, engaging and measurable learning solutions tailored specifically to the needs of internal colleges and lines of business.
  • A modern product strategist: You possess the ability to use a product mindset to iterate and improve learning based on data. You treat learning solutions as dynamic products rather than static events, continuously leveraging qualitative feedback, engagement analytics and organizational health metrics to optimize learning outcomes.
  • A collaborative partner: You possess a strong leadership presence and the ability to communicate with leaders across all levels of the organization. You partner seamlessly with strategic advisors, business leaders and HR partners to ensure end‑to‑end learning experiences align with executive imperatives.
  • An operational systems thinker: You build well‑managed infrastructure to ensure learning design output is consistent with organizational guidelines and meets a high standard of learning excellence.
Here’s what you need to be successful:
  • Applied adult learning expertise: Deep expertise in how adults learn in a large, matrixed organization, backed by hands‑on experience designing end‑to‑end learning journeys (eLearnings, ILT, workbooks, etc.) across all modalities.
  • Ownership and agility: The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, operating effectively in ambiguity to translate high‑level business goals into structured, actionable learning paths.
  • Innovation and advocacy: A strong connection to the learning and development field. You continually research, evaluation and share relevant industry trends to create customer‑grade learning experiences and influence stakeholders to adopt innovative tools for rapid development.
