Job summary

CenterPoint Energy is seeking a Large Customer Projects Manager to lead the project management team handling customer-driven projects within the capital portfolio. You will guide projects from inception to close-out, mitigate risks, remove obstacles and drive process improvements across the lifecycle.

The role requires coordinating with internal stakeholders across engineering, regulatory, finance, procurement, and operations while achieving organizational goals and maintaining a safe work

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Business Management, Project Management, Construction Management, Operations Management, or Supply Chain Management, or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Requires a minimum of 6 years’ experience in the electric utility.

Responsibilities

• Manages project management teams from project start to completion including siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way, project controls, procurement, constructability reviews, material management, construction management and closeout.
• Builds relationships with operational groups, engineering, survey and right-of-way, regulatory, finance, procurement & logistics, and others.
• Identifies process improvement opportunities and drives efficiencies.
• Oversees documentation and consistency across the enterprise.
• Develops departmental goals and performance targets with team members.
• Manages a team of FTEs and internal contractors to execute capital portfolio projects.
• Participates in recurring meetings with stakeholders.
• Assists in budget and forecasting for the capital portfolio and monthly CAPEX meetings.
• Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills and manages performance reviews and disciplinary actions when needed.
• Ensures a safe working environment and a mindset of continuous improvement.
• Provides thorough documentation including business cases and status reports.

Job Summary

The Large Customer Projects Manager leads and directs the project management team comprised of Project Managers, Cost Controllers, and Schedulers to execute customer driven projects effectively and efficiently in the capital portfolio. The Manager will work with the team to carry a project from inception to close-out, mitigating risks, removing obstacles, and identifying process improvement opportunities throughout the project life cycle.

Essential Functions

• Manages employees performing project management functions from project start to completion including siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls, bid phase services, procurement, constructability reviews, material management, construction management, and closeout.
• Builds relationships and effectively interfaces with operational groups, engineering, survey and right-of-way, regulatory, finance, procurement & logistics, and others
• Works proactively with internal stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities and create efficiencies when possible
• Provide organizational oversight to the internal stakeholder groups to ensure process and documentation consistency across the enterprise
• Utilize and champion the software tools identified and implemented
• Develops departmental goals and initiatives and works with team members to set individual performance goals
• Manages a team comprised of CNP FTEs and internal contractors to successfully execute the customer projects in the capital portfolio projects identified for CEHE
• Participate in recurring meetings with internal and external stakeholders

• Assists in the management of the CEHE capital portfolio budget and forecasting
• Assists in the monthly CAPEX budget meetings
• Demonstrates superior written and oral communication skills
• Monitors performance, maintains employee records and documentation, provides on-going feedback, coaches when improvement is needed and performs formal performance reviews and counsels and/or administers disciplinary action, as warranted
• Ensure all employees maintain a safe working environment
• Demonstrates initiative and a continuous improvement mindset
• Provides thorough documentation including business cases, performance metrics, status reports, etc.
