Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a Manager, Landowner Services to lead the team responsible for the accurate and timely processing of landowner payments supporting projects across the construction and operating portfolios. This individual will lead a team of payment analysts responsible for reviewing contractual payment obligations, validating payment calculations, resolving exceptions, and ensuring payments are processed in accordance with applicable land agreements and established controls. This is a hands‑on operational leadership role requiring strong attention to detail, financial acumen, and a controls‑oriented mindset. The Manager will develop a deep understanding of land agreements and associated payment obligations and will provide oversight and guidance on complex or non‑standard payment scenarios. The ideal candidate will bring an accounting or financial mindset and be comfortable working across detailed contractual requirements, payment calculations, systems, and processes to ensure payment accuracy and integrity. The Manager will also play a key role in the continued adoption and optimization of the team’s land payment system. As system capabilities continue to evolve, this individual will help establish scalable processes and controls, lead business testing of system enhancements, and ensure new functionality performs as intended prior to deployment. A key focus will be evaluating existing manual processes and controls—including spreadsheet‑based activities—and determining how system functionality, reporting, and appropriate controls can be leveraged to create a more efficient, sustainable, and reliable payment process. The successful candidate will be a strong people leader and problem solver who is comfortable working through complex details while maintaining a broader focus on operational excellence. This individual will partner across Land, Development, Construction, Operations, Legal, Finance/Accounting, IT, and other internal teams to resolve issues and continuously improve the landowner payment process.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Landowner Payment Oversight: Lead the review and approval of landowner payments across construction and operating projects, ensuring payments are accurate, timely, appropriately supported, and consistent with contractual obligations and established controls.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop a team of payment analysts; establish clear expectations and consistent processes, provide guidance on complex payment scenarios, and build team capabilities and accountability.
  • Agreement & Payment Validation: Develop a strong understanding of land agreements and associated payment provisions to provide oversight of payment calculations, investigate discrepancies, resolve exceptions, and ensure payment obligations are executed appropriately.
  • Financial Controls & Payment Integrity: Maintain a strong control environment around landowner payments, including appropriate review, reconciliation, documentation, and approval processes. Partner with relevant stakeholders to support audit, compliance, and control requirements.
  • System Enhancement & Testing: Lead the business validation and user acceptance testing of payment system enhancements, including development of test scenarios, validation of expected results, identification and resolution of defects, and assessment of production readiness.
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate existing payment processes and controls to identify opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce manual effort, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and improve accuracy and scalability while maintaining appropriate financial and contractual controls.
  • System Adoption & Change Management: Drive adoption of system-based payment processes by helping the team understand and trust system functionality, reporting, workflows, and controls. Develop sustainable approaches for validating payments and managing exceptions as processes transition away from spreadsheet-based activities.
  • Issue Resolution & Root-Cause Analysis: Serve as an escalation point for complex payment and system issues, identify root causes, assess financial and operational impacts, and coordinate resolution across appropriate business and technology partners.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Land, Development, Construction, Operations, Legal, Finance/Accounting, Technology, and other internal stakeholders to resolve payment issues, interpret requirements, improve processes, and support evolving business needs.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish and monitor appropriate metrics, controls, and operating routines to provide visibility into payment accuracy, timeliness, exceptions, workload, and process performance and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
