McLaren Health Care is seeking a Lab Operations professional to oversee non-technical areas within and outside the laboratory, aligning processes with the central lab. The role includes staff supervision and coordinating quality, safety, and efficiency initiatives.

The ideal candidate holds an associate degree with five years of related experience, plus three years of supervisory work in a clinical lab. This is a full-time on-site position nested within McLaren Health Management Group.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations, assigns lab staff and monitors processes to align with the central laboratory.
  • Purchases or approves equipment and supplies; maintains inventory and instrument maintenance.
  • Develops and delivers staff education and training programs; creates SOPs.
  • Maintains quality assurance procedures and ensures compliance with safety requirements.
  • Participates in budgeting, capital equipment planning and growth contracts for reagents and instruments.
  • Keeps current on lab technology and regulatory updates; attends seminars.

Job description

Position Summary

Responsible for the overall operation of non-technical areas within and outside the laboratory. Areas of responsibility can include specimen processing, reports processing, problem resolution, client services, clerical support, and patient service centers. Participates in the development and achievement of quality, service, outcomes research, fiscal productivity and customer/employee satisfaction goals and objectives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Oversees daily operations, including assignment of lab staff and monitoring performance of the processes in the assigned areas to ensure that area specific departments of responsibility are harmonized with the central laboratory.
  • Purchases or approves purchases of equipment and supplies, maintains inventory and instrument maintenance.
  • Coordinates and conducts education and training programs for staff, other corporate personnel, and external customers. Develops and implements standard operating procedures (SOPs). Oversees staff development and evaluation of new products and procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate quality assurance procedures; ensures compliance with current safety requirements; coordinates activities with other state and federal agencies and entities.
  • Participates in developing and monitoring long range planning and budgeting processes in conjunction with operations management, researches and makes recommendations for new capital equipment and areas of growth and contracts for reagents and instrumentation.
  • Maintains current knowledge of advances in laboratory technology; federal and state regulations; attends seminars, lectures, meetings, and professional conferences. Maintains an awareness of emerging technology in the field of specialty.
Required
  • Associate degree in related field
  • Five years related work experience.
Preferred
  • Three years of supervisor experience in a clinical laboratory
