Manager, Laboratory Services - Transfusion and Transplant

Join to apply for the Manager, Laboratory Services - Transfusion and Transplant role at Werfen North America.

The Manager, Laboratory Services will oversee the Laboratory Services department to ensure timely testing of raw materials and final products, meeting all procedures and specifications. Responsibilities include equipment management, documentation, product control, storage, and quality assurance.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide leadership to laboratory staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  2. Review and approve laboratory records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with SOPs and regulations (FDA, Health Canada, ISO 13485, OSHA, etc.).
  3. Schedule laboratory activities to meet production demands.
  4. Ensure timely completion of out-of-specification records, root cause analyses, and deviation investigations.
  5. Implement performance metrics to monitor and improve laboratory efficiency and compliance.
  6. Lead continuous improvement initiatives such as eliminating redundant tests, 5S, kanban, and workload balancing.
  7. Conduct employee appraisals and manage disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.
  8. Assist in preparing and managing the department budget.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned, with accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
Travel Requirements

Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge & Experience
  • Medical Technologist with ASCP Certification, BS in Laboratory Sciences; specialization in Blood Bank preferred.
Experience
  • At least one year in management or a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of blood bank/transfusion services.
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education at management's discretion.
Skills & Capabilities
  • Develops succession plans for key laboratory roles.
  • Works cooperatively with other departments and follows directions well.
  • Manages employee training and maintains training records.
